Earth Live Preview

EARTH | Coming to Will’s Pub in Orlando | Wednesday, September 2, 2015 | Limited Tickets Remain!

by • September 1, 2015

Earth is not the music that makes your heart race. The trio’s low and slow, often distorted brand of instrumental rock is a mixing of rasping guitar, ambient swells, and dusty twang that gives it a sonic trademark that has been evolving for 20+ years. Their music is long and bleak, pensive and symphonic, and rolling with hooks between the protracted melodies.

Seeing and hearing Earth live means getting enveloped in that sound, and indeed feeling it as the noise carries you through a dense soundscape (Trust me, they like to play it loud). Your foot is tapping, your head is bobbing, but your thoughts are transported to a place that the music makes. One can’t help but to imagine sprawling landscapes in the arrangement, and as the tune builds, it becomes a soundtrack of something tangible – the Soundtrack of long barren stretches of highway, the crawl of time, and storm clouds forming.

After all, they’re called Earth for a reason. …Actually the name is taken from Black Sabbath’s original title, but the bands double-homage to the colossal and languid power of a planet is apparent.

Olympia, Washington’s Earth have grown up from a notable, albeit underground drone-metal act to giants of the genre, brushing shoulders and sharing stages with the likes of Kurt Cobain and The Melvins along the way (Cobain even sang lead vocals on Earth’s early work, “Divine and Bright”). Longtime fans will tell you that Earth’s music can be divided into two distinct periods: their early minimalist-drone metal, and more recent cinematic ambience, but their live show is characterized by a seamless melding of the two. Now touring to showcase their 8th studio effort, Primitive and Deadly, Earth have cemented themselves as pioneers of a sound since cultivated by acts like Mogwai, Fu Manchu, and post-rock darlings, This Will Destroy You.

Fortunately for us, Earth is content to play the small venues despite their big legacy, and will be hosted by Will’s Pub this Wednesday, September 2nd. With any luck, the trio will give us a new rendition of the fan-favorite “Tallahassee” for their only Florida stop, but either way the show promises to be a treat. While Earth may not be the music that makes your heart race, their music is the sort that slows time and tells a secret story between the beats. Seeing Earth live is an experience that can’t be replicated, and one that you certainly should not miss.

We’ve learned that only a few tickets remain for the Orlando show on Wednesday, September 2! Get your tickets below before the sell out!
