Universal Funk Orchestra collaborates with Hertzfelt for a remix of their single, “Humalien.” The original track was epic (here) but this remix takes it to another level … ready? DROP! Original track and remix below.
Universal Funk Orchestra is a 5-Piece Funk Rock + Hip Hop + Electronic Party led by Dizzlephunk. U.F.O. is a collective of musicians from all diverse backgrounds. Curated by DJ Dizzlephunk (Family Gang), U.F.O.’s current line-up is a veritable of who’s who in their current scene. From the positive rapid-fire raps of Brian B-True (Hor!zen, Beebs and Her Money Makers), the smooth-to-slick Saxophone work of Joe Capati (The 502s, Gary Lazer Eyes), the energetic drumming of Chris LeBrane (Family Gang, Kaleigh Baker), to the frenetic kinetic guitar power of The Jester (Family Gang, Tears of a Tyrant), U.F.O.’s sonic drive reaches far into galactic genres. High quality yet DIY, grounded in the cosmos.
As a live band, the stage is their spaceship. Dizzle and Chris’ onstage personas borderline theatrical. B-True delivers his unique brand of art, staying true to his roots, energizing the audience with his animated street style. Jester and Joe further amplify the stagecraft with their flawless punctuation and brilliant star power.
Their next Orlando show is Friday, August 30 at Soundbar in downtown Orlando w/ Catbamboo (Baton Rouge, LA), Flagman, and Sunstrife, presented by our friends, Montgomery Drive. RSVP Here or click the image below.
HEADS UP — Dizzlephunk is taking the UFO Sax player, Joe Capati, on tour next week to NOLA. Full dates below!

Universal Funk Orchestra “Humalien” Remix by Mitch.

Suwannee Hulaween dropped a monstrous phase one lineup once again which includes a ton of strong up-and-coming artists as well as some of our favorite big-time national acts. This Beast of the Southeast will cater to fans interested in Dance, Bass, Bluegrass, Funk, Rock, Jam, Reggae, and more! Here, we will try to digest this behemoth collection of delicious talent by identifying each artists’ background, style of music, and ways to find more information about them.
The String Cheese Incident — Assembled in 1993 in Colorado, this 6-piece force is the nations premiere progressive bluegrass jam band. Every show is a spectacle with top-notch lights, performers and special guests. Prepare yourself for 7 stellar “incidents,” including one theme set at Hulaween this year!
Bassnectar — DJ Lorin Ashton became ‘Bassnectar’ in 2002 and has been climbing to to top of festival lineups ever since. Now headlining wherever he appears, this polarizing DJ/producer hypes his loyal fans with extreme bass, dub-step, and breakbeats with hip-hop flare. Bassnectar has 10 studio albums under his belt and is now hosting his own festival: Deja Voom. Although his fans tend to get a bad rap, they were without conflict during his last visit to the sacred lands of the Spirit of Suwannee. Bring your positive vibes for this electrifying set!
Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals — Singer, songwriter, rapper, multi-instrumentalist are all great words to describe this 33 year old phenom. Hailing from Oxnard, California, .Paak released his debut album in 2012 called O.B.E. Vol. 1. Now an extremely popular artist, .Paak has championed the neo-soul sound movement in addition to his hip-hop, R&B, funk, and jazz offerings. Anderson recently released a solo album titled Ventura in addition to his viral collaboration, Yes Lawd!, in 2016 with L.A. producer Knxwledge as NxWorries. And we think he had one of the best NPR Tiny Desk performances ever.
Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit — A former member of the Drive-by Truckers from 2001-2007, guitarist Jason Isbell has won four Grammys. His latest winning in 2018 for Best Americana Album, The Nashville Sound. After leaving the Truckers, Isbell released his first solo album in 2007, titled Sirens of the Ditch. In 2009, Isbell joined the 400 Unit to release his second solo album, self-titled Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit. Americana, Alternative Country, and Southern Rock are all on the menu for Isbell’s tasty Hulaween set.
Big Wild— Formerly a hip-hop beat producer, known as J Beatz, Jackson Stell produces electronic music with roots in indie and pop.
Flying Lotus— No doubt he will be spinning his new album, Flamagra, which features huge artists like Anderson .Paak, George Clinton, and Little Dragon. Founder of the record label Brainfeeder, FlyLo hails from L.A. Check out “Black Balloons Reprise” featuring Denzel Curry on this brand new shit. I can best describe his sound as dramatic Psy-Trance music with both Hip-Hop beats and lyrics, although it really is a changing work of art from song to song. Visit this set and expannnnnnnnnnnnnnnd your horizonsssss.
Greensky Bluegrass— These bluegrass mavericks from Kalamazoo, MI have figured out how to blend the culture and sound of stomp-and-stringsbluegrass with a rock-n-roll, break-the-rules attitude. They have 10 offerings for their fans and committed to making music for a very long time to come.
Jai Wolf— New York’s Sajeeb Saha (Jai Wolf) released his 2019 album, The Cure To Lonliness in April. His Indie Chill-Step has fans falling in love with his vibes like hit song, Indian Summer.
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead— Joe Russo is the best drummer on the planet. Formerly of the Benevento/Russo Duo, that pianist and drummer are now pushing the classic songs of the Grateful Dead to the limit. JRAD also includes Tom Hamilton (guitar), Scott Metzger (guitar), Marco Benevento (keys), and Ween’s Dave Dreiwitz (bass).
Tom Morello — Guitarist from the massive rock band, Rage Against The Machine. Get ready for the wildest guitar sounds to ever pierce your ears.
Snails — Puke-Step.
Sound Tribe Sector Nine — After 11 albums (2 remixed) this six piece Live’tronica band from Georgia is a hell of a good time. Constantly pushing the boundaries of electronic music, STS9 will help this festival to “Get Loud,” and make the “World Go Round (live).”
Tchami— Martin Joseph Léonard Bresso (France) is a DJ/producer of Bass centered House music. He has an undeniable European flare causing his blazing fast rise to the top. Recently CRUSHING at Ultra 2019, Tchami is the future of the ever-changing sound of EDM.
Doom Flamingo — Take it from Matthew Wright, who saw them in Denver a earlier this year: “I have to fully admit that my preconceived notions of this Umphrey’s McGee side project were entirely wrong. Let’s set the record straight — this is NOT a side project. It’s a different band altogether. It is its own machine and a sexy one at that. It stands on its own. It’s got one (pink) foot planted deeply in the sexy sands of an 80’s beach while looking omnisciently into our present times.”
Umphrey’s McGee— A Progressive Rock band at its core, Umph has been rocking the festival jam scene for 20-plus years. Fans are encouraged to wear sunglasses and sunscreen to this FACE MELTING set. In addition, this might be your last chance to catch Lighting Director Jefferson Waful behind the controls creating his lush lighting landscapes.
The best of the rest include:
Star Kitchen— (Jam) a brand new project from Disco Biscuits’ bassist Marc Brownstein, Marlon Lewis (drummer for John Legend), and Danny Mayer (Guitarist from Eric Krasno).
Tauk— (Rock/Jam) all-instrumental blend of progressive rock, hip-hop, and jazz. Don’t miss Isaac Teel on the drums!
Billy Strings— (Bluegrass/Jam) Up and coming Bluegrass star from Lansing, MI. Check him out now while the crowds are small, this guy is headed to the top!!
Circles Around The Sun— (Jam) Neal Casal of Chris Robinson Brotherhood leads his new project on a voyage to dominate every festival they play! Only formed to play set break of the Grateful Dead’s 50th; they had such a connection they couldn’t stop there! Check out their exploratory music at Suwannee Hulaween 2019!
Whethan — Only 20 years old and maybe the fastest rising star on the poster. Ethan Snoreck from Chicago had his first break with a remix of the track “XE3” by Mssingno in 2016. Indie/Funk/Pop EDM is the name of the game with Wethan.
Kaleigh Baker’s Someday Honey — The voice to heal your soul. If you’ve ever experienced Kaleigh Baker, you know. If you don’t know, you will find out, you simply do not miss Kaleigh Baker.
We’re looking forward to phase 2. Even though there won’t be any “headliners” or “stage closers,” I’m sure we’ll have some wonderful surprise additions. Plus, Thursday night lineup and Silent Disco!
Phase two will be smaller. A few more killer mid tier acts, the local and regional acts, the silent disco… and maybe the details of the Halloween Incident. All headliners and stage closers have been announced already. https://t.co/UJwFioFH2s

I swear my friend Evan Chabot and I just manifested this dream come true. Keith Buckley, one of our favorite (his fav of all time) lead singers, is in a ’90s cover band with one of my favorite people James Dewees, of The Get Up Kids (who I have tattooed on me), and it’s f*cking called SOUL PATCH. Hahaha! What a perfect name. Shit. Is this fo’real?
Soul Patch Members Include:
Keith Buckley (vocals)
Steve Micciche (bass)
Joey Dynamite (guitar)
Jeff Schaller (drums)
Jessika Schreiber (backing vocals)
James Dewees (keyboards)
So far, I’ve unearthed Soul Patch covers of Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Goo Goo Dolls, The Cardigans, Sonic Youth … The best are below.
Apparently they’ve been a band for a long time. I still think we manifested this.
This is so wonderful hahaha!
But I think this is may favorite. Especially the way it is filmed … 100%
It’s 5PM in Atlanta and I have two beautiful beagles in my arms — Mabel and Sadie. Even better, there’s a pizza on the way from Siracusa’s. We Were Promised Jetpacks must love their ‘za too, because they’ve made Hot’lanta their southernmost part of their 34 city, international “These Four Walls Tour.” I’ve hitched a ride up to ATL with my pal Justin and will return back home with a $38 flight I found to makes this adventure possible!
So, tonight I’m solo. Full of the best pizza I’ve had since being in NY, and driving a car out of my price range. Through security. Hit the bar, “PBR please.” “No PBR.” “Ok, what’s your cheapest beer?” “Budwiser is $6.” In the pit, now holding my $6 Dos XX to my chest like gold. The room is filled with strangers who, like me, found something special in this bleeding indie rock band from Scotland.
Now the opener — also from Glosgow — Catholic Action is killing it. Their witty guitar work is fucking brilliant. These punk and artsy vibes have me warming up quick like a little microwave. Their lead singer, Chris McCroy, shares that he spent last night drinking and then found out just how terrifying sleep paralysis can be! I, too, spent hours of my day in a car, hungover from last night. Thankfully, no sleep paralysis for me.
In a 2017 interview with NME, Chris McCroy says, “I did not want to make disposable music that meant nothing to me or the listener,” when asked about their debut album, In Memory Of. Their song “Propaganda” echoes that tone lyrically, “music to tick boxes … I will never be like you.”
My favorite part of their set is a rad new song, “unreleased.” It has lots of group vocals and reminds me of The Fratellis or Vaccines, something crowds will bounce and yell around to. In the NME interview, when asked about their new album (release date TBA), McCroy says, “I want Kevin Shields [of My Bloody Valentine] to play guitar on it. I want to change what it means to be in a guitar band.”
Damn. I’m super stoked for this album.
He said onstage it’s coming out in February 2020. I sure hope so, if not sooner. Keep your ears up for this band, Catholic Action.
It’s been seven years since I saw We Were Promised Jetpacks at The Social in Orlando, FL with Bad Veins. They closed with their hit “It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning.” I was drunk. I loved both bands. I remember slapping the stage like an idiot, like electricity running through me. One of the best shows I saw that year.
Fast forward to tonight and We Were Promised Jetpacks of Edinburgh, Scotland opens up with a “It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning,” shaking the four walls inside Terminal West as well as every heart here.
“Right foot, followed by your left foot …”
This energy is what I came for. Adam Thompson is yelling like he’s out of fucks to give and his stage is true freedom — no one can take it. It’s hard to maintain this kind of energy over the course of ten years. But, like your favorite pizza place, they consistently deliver hot-n-fresh power. They pour out passion and intensity, just like the first time together, only a bit more mature. Here’s a shitty pic:
These Four Walls is one of my favourite albums. Each song is a different introspective journey. Everyone knows “Quiet Little Voices” is a banger, but I think it may be the least woke song on the album, lyrically.
I’m remembering words I thought I forgot in “Moving Clocks Run Slow,” and “Short Bursts.” I’m ready for the eight minutes of “Keeping Warm” which builds and builds and fills me up, eyes closed, till it spills the most beautiful truth.
“The chances of being born are so slim So keep warm, so keep warm And take some heart at being born at quite so young You can learn to talk, and learn to walk in your own time”
They mention their friends, Frightened Rabbit, who are one of my favorite bands. This band set up an organization called Tiny Changes, in memory of the late Scott Hutchinson. Tiny Changes raises awareness for mental health. Frightened Rabbit just released a Tiny Changesalbum, featuring covers of FR songs from Biffy Clyro, Benjamin Gabbard, Julien Baker, Manchester Orchestra, Sarah Silverman, and more. You can learn more about Tiny Changes here.
We Were Promised Jetpacks put out a new album last year, which I shamefully haven’t listened to much. It’s called The More I Sleep the Less I Dream and its title speaks to my soul. It’s so often I want to write some deep, sad, introspective shit like that. It can be very therapeutic to do so. I can already tell while reading some of the lyrics, this is going to be some good shit.
They play two tracks from the new album, nothing from Unravelling, and three from Pit Of The Stomach. We were promised These Four Walls, we got more, and they performed the fun ones — “these are some songs we really enjoy playing live,” Adam Thompson says. After donating to Tiny Changes, I dip out and realize I don’t have no clue where I’m headed. I spend ten minutes in the car Google Mapping the area where they live, find the park next to their house, add the destination, and make my way back to hang in the basement.
WWPJ is a bucket list band. A bucket list band stays on your bucket list forever. You can’t just see them once and check it off. You want it again and again, and it keeps getting better.
We Were Promised Jetpacks Live Review 2019 by Mitch.
St. Petersburg, Fla. (February 12, 2018) – No Clubs Presents, in partnership with Jannus Live Presents, proudly welcomes back Reggae juggernauts Rebelution for a one night stop at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg on their “Good Vibes Summer Tour” with special guests Protoje and Collie Buddz on Sunday, August 18. Tickets for Rebelution’s “Good Vibes Summer Tour” are ON SALE NOW! TICKETS HERE!
Fourteen years into an effervescent career, California reggae band Rebelution remains abundantly creative. Its members (singer/guitarist/lyricist Eric Rachmany, keyboardist Rory Carey, drummer Wesley Finley, and bassist Marley D. Williams) are as focused and committed as they are easygoing and laid-back. And they haven’t lost a step since Falling Into Place, their 2016 studio album, became the band’s fourth release to top the Billboard reggae chart, earning them their first ever Grammy nomination in the category of Best Reggae Album. Ever expanding and reaching wider audiences, the Rebelution phenomenon continues to spread good vibes on tour, and in the studio.
Free Rein, their sixth studio album, while still rooted in the Jamaican inspiration that Rebelution’s songs and sounds have always paid homage to, takes experimental leaps and new adventures too, welcoming old fans and new audiences alike. The musicians collaborated with Jamaican artists on three of the 12 new tracks. Don Corleon (Sean Paul, Rihanna) produced “Rise On Top,” a pointed reflection on celebrity and ambition; and Winta James, producer for Damian Marley and Chronixx, worked with the band on “Settle Down Easy” and “City Life,” two songs that reflect a more confessional perspective.
“Celebrate,” the new album’s opening track, nods to the classic Rebelution sound. It has special meaning for the band too. In their long months on the road, they’ve met fans with health struggles who’ve said that their music has helped them get through tough times. An energizing shout-out to one and all, the song celebrates the oneness of artist and audience.
The band remains in touch with the traditions that it builds on. Much of the style, the songwriting, and the quality of the instrumentals derive from Jamaican roots, says Rachmany, stressing what an honor it is that producers from reggae’s birthplace signed on to work with Rebelution.
But every great band is its own life force as well, and the musicians of Rebelution take inspiration from other genres, including soul, R&B, and folk. “A lot of this album has to do with being comfortable in your own skin,” the singer notes. In “Take On Anything,” for example, “what I’m trying to get across is that it’s OK to be different, different is actually a beautiful thing – if you’re comfortable in your own skin every single day then you really can take on anything.”

Suwannee Hulaween is the most exciting festival in the Southeast.
