Arriving at the Mid Florida Credit Union Amphitheater in Tampa, FL at 6:55pm, knowing the show started at 7:00 and I was covering New Politics, I sprinted through the parking lot of this massive amphitheater to make it in the venue right as New Politics were taking the stage. Looking back at the crowd from the photo pit, I came to the conclusion that this tour for New Politics is huge. They are the opening band for two staples in the genre. The three piece band hailing from Denmark and Brooklyn, NY gracefully played their style of grunge/pop/punk/electronic rock all over the stage and had the crowd on its feet.

David Boyd is the frontman of this era. Displaying great emotional showmanship throughout the entire performance – from head stands on the stage to crowd walking, he captivated and commanded the audience with his hypnotizing performance. Playing an eight song set, New Politics performed hits from both of their albums as well as a Panic! At The Disco cover (“Miss Jackson”). Their set was short but very sweet. And a tone setter for the rest of the evening! I can’t wait to see them headline The Beacham in Orlando on October 17.

I forgot to mention that I didn’t even know I was going to this show until the day before! I got a phone call the day before the show from a buddy of mine Graham Oakley saying he had two tickets for the “Monument Tour” in Tampa. I’m like “Dude, there’s no way I’d be able to pay for them. I’m on vacation and I just spent all my money.” He was like “they are my gift to you, go enjoy the show!” I was stoked! I love Paramore and Fall Out Boy and grew up listening to them and I’ve heard nothing but good things about New Politics. As I was sitting there in excitement, I realized I had a press contact for New Politics so I figured why not try to photograph the show too! Luckily, my contact obliged and set me up with a photo pass (thanks!!).
