Why ‘Ralphfest’ Is The Most Important Music Festival In Orlando | February 20 – 22, Friday – Sunday, 2015

by • February 13, 2015

What do you do when you lose someone you love? You mourn. You fill with emotions. Anger, hatred, depression and confusion, all swirl in your mind. Ralph was many people’s best friend. He was a lover, a talented musician, a sound engineer, a graphic designer, and what many recall as “one of the nicest guys in Orlando.” When his life was taken, it left a hole in his friends, family, and the entire Central Florida music community. How do you remember someone so great? How do you remind people why they should celebrate such a beautiful life?

Ralph Ameduri Jr. was murdered on September 10, 2011 outside of a venue in Winter Haven, FL between sets while performing with Thomas Wynn & The Believers. Ralphfest acts as an annual celebration and coping mechanism for the tragic loss of Ralph’s life, and is put together by Ralph’s best friend, Jeff Sweat. Jeff doesn’t go a single day without thinking about Ralph. You can see the perpetual pain in his eyes when he talks about what happened that day. A senseless murder. Sometimes the word “hate” isn’t strong enough to describe the feelings you feel when someone murders your best friend. How would you describe it?

Jeff held the very first Ralphfest to celebrate his best friend’s life in November of 2011, just two (very long) months after Ralph was murdered. Since then, Ralphfest has grown to be Orlando’s largest local music festival. Ralphfest is about celebrating the life of a great man who helped grow the Orlando Music Community; someone who deserves to still be alive, performing and growing, today. When you attend Ralphfest, you are also attending a celebration of the Orlando Music Community.

Money raised at Ralphfest music festival goes toward a music scholarship in Ralph Ameduri Jr’s name.
