Shows I Go To is always on the lookout for great local music. Here’s what we’re diggin right now in our little town of Orlando, FL. Enjoy! 🙂

Pathos, Pathos

“Tiger,” released December 23, 2014.
This is Pathos, Pathos’ first single off of their upcoming EP, Familiar Homes. However, this song is like an entire EP smushed into one track! The falsettos and crispy-howls bleeding out of front-man Matt Walsh makes this song soar. He channels some of the clearer tones comparable to those of Freelance Whales and even some Vampire Weekend with a matchable energy. The tempo changes. The whistles at the end. The way the guitar and drums meet in the middle of the song to warrant some surefire clap-alongs… I’m looking forward to seeing it performed live. When I talked to Matt about the lyrics in “Tiger” he said “I will say that most of the lyrics have double meanings.” Check out “Tiger” by Pathos, Pathos below and catch them on January 28, 2015 at Will’s Pub Orlando with Gravel Kings, Tickets Here.

Lanterns (FL)

Sand EP, released January 4, 2015.
Man, I’m loving drummer Josh Jauz’s time signatures! They’re fun, interestingly complex, and well-fitting mathematical arrangements. While listening to their song “Paths Unknown,” I made the false assumption that I was experiencing an instrumental band (which I was completely cool with) until I neared the two-minute mark and some spacey, Minus The Bear influenced, vocals came in. Their three-song EP is a powerful movement. Their lyrics are short, poetically-penned compliments to the two tracks which allow for vocals (“Paths Unkown” and “Sand”). Listen to it from start to finish below and catch Lanterns (FL) playing at Will’s Pub on Tuesday, -February 10, 2015 with Boyfrndz, tickets here.

The New Lows

“New Song [Untitled]” Performed Live at St. Matthews Tavern on January 11, 2015.
Live performance video released January 18, 2015.
This new track is aggressive and raw and loud, just the way a rock song should be. It comes in nice and easy then blows through the house, fucking up everything in its path, leaving you reeling, wondering where it went and searching for more. It stands alongside something you’d expect musically from the likes of Against Me! Check out The New Lows’ new song below and catch them at Ralph Fest on Friday, February 20 at Uncle Lou’s.

Tiger Fawn

New Local Music Orlando - Tiger Fawn full band

The Fire Licks The Wood EP, Released December 18, 2014
First off, that ukulele rules! It’s dreamy and plucked just right under a starry night, possibly even looped over itself during a live performance. This three-piece–featuring Dani Lacerda on vocals and Ukulele, Russell Nylen on percussion, and Aimee Lindie on bass–is an eccentric trio with a minimalistic feel worthy of serving the soundtrack to any chill evening. Just close your eyes and settle into Tiger Fawn.

Dwayne Bain

“Fadeaway” published on YouTube on December 29, 2014.
We met Dwayne Bain at the end of a drunken night when we were shoving tacos down our gullets at Tacos El Rancho (which is a hidden late-night gem, alternative to Gringo’s). Dwayne and I exchanged info after he approached us, introducing himself as a musician. I must say, I give the utmost respect to those who hustle to promote themselves in a courteous way on the streets. Dwayne told me he writes and produces all his own music and turned us on to his new single “Fadeaway.” It’s certainly a song to smoke a blunt to and “fadeaway” to (we already did). Dwayne also told us he’s looking to book some shows in Orlando, drop him a line if you can help.
