The Jamaican reggae outfit hailing from Kingston are most famous for their work with the one and only Bob Marley. They have continued to keep Bob’s spirit alive and spread messages of love and solidarity since 1981. The current lineup consists of Aston Barrett (Bass), Aston Barrett Jr. (Organ), Dwayne Anglin (Lead Vocals), Joshua Barrett (Lead Vocals), Cegee Victory (Backing Vocals), Audley Chisholm (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals), Melvin Glover (Rhythm Guitar), Chaka Taylor (Keyboards), and Anthony Creary (Drums).

Their nucleus formed in 1969, when Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, and Peter Tosh recruited the Barrett brothers — bassist Aston “Family Man” and drummer Carly – from Lee Perry’s Upsetters to play on hits such as Lively Up Yourself, Trenchtown Rock, Duppy Conqueror, and many more. Aston has been the anchor of the band who, in addition to being Marley’s most trusted lieutenant, played on countless other classic reggae hits throughout the seventies. He brings the authenticity and old school know-how to deliver the heartbeat rhythms that have inspired so much.

I was fortunate enough to be on board Jam Cruise in January 2014 and was witness to The Wailers playing on the pool deck of the cruise ship as we set sail after a day in Jamaica. Check out the one video of their set I managed to stop dancing to in order to capture a snap shot of the beautiful experience they were creating.
