Pop punk outfit Yellowcard will be stopping in Orlando for two — count ‘em, two — nights on their “The Final World Tour!” Their self-titled album released in September of this year was announced to be their final record. Next year would mark their 20th anniversary as a band, and though their lineup has changed over the years, they’ve always stayed true to their roots.

Ocean Avenue, their platinum album that came out in 2003, is their most iconic album, and they’ll be playing it in its entirety on their second night at House of Blues. It’s a classic reminder of the little rebel in me that enjoyed similar bands like Blink-182 and Sum 41, and their continued success is proof that their songs on love, loss, and strength can withstand the test of time.

One thing that definitely sets them apart from other pop punk bands is their violinist, Sean Mackin. The violin adds a smoother element to their songs, and it’s a good contrast to the distorted guitar riffs and Ryan Key’s classic vocals.

It’s easy to see their growth as a band when comparing it to their newest release, which has a much more mature sound. Yellowcard is definitely bittersweet, as the band says goodbye to their fans from the last two decades; their video for “Rest in Peace” will have tears welling up in your eyes even if you haven’t followed them for their entire journey.

On their website, they didn’t hesitate to express their gratitude for the wild ride that has been their career:

While it is with sadness that we say goodbye, it is with gratitude and amazement that we look back on a career we can be proud of, and were so lucky to have had.”

Their shows at House of Blues will surely be full of laughter, tears, and wholehearted rocking as we bid them farewell.
