I mostly stay out of the pit these days but I always put on my skankin’ shoes when these guys come to town! Less than Jake and Reel Big Fish have both been touring for over two decades. One of the main reasons they have stayed successful after all these years is they continue to play what the fans want to hear. I am always treated to a career spanning set of fan-favorites whenever I see either of these bands perform.
Both bands have just set out on their winter co-headlining tour that will be hitting House of Blues Orlando on Tuesday, February 3 2015 (Win tickets below).
Less than Jake developed their unique blend of punk and ska in Gainesville, Florida. They have been around since 1992 but the first time I saw them live was at a radio festival in 1997. This show took place shortly after the release of their sophomore record Losing Streak, an album that would soon become the soundtrack to my high school career. Hearing “Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts” live for the first time was the highlight of the show. Even though I had a blast, the forty minute festival set left me wanting more. Ever since this first experience, I make it a point to see these guys every time they come to town.
Reel Big Fish will be joining Less than Jake on this co-headlining bill. They are one of those bands that are nearly impossible not to like. These guys have been one of my favorite bands since I picked up their first album, Turn the Radio Off, in 1996. After almost twenty years, the band still continues to play many of the songs from this album at their live shows. Their latest release, Candy Coated Fury, stays true to their classic sound, in what is one of their best albums in years. (Check out the video for “Don’t Stop Skankin'” below)
Rounding out the lineup is reggae/punk band Authority Zero. I have seen these guys quite a few times and they always put on a great show. Their acoustic set at last year’s Earthday Birthday is definitely one I will not forget. This will be a great way to open the show so make sure you arrive early with your skankin’ shoes on.
