The last time I saw Dustin Kensrue at House of Blues Orlando, his band Thrice was performing their last leg of their farewell tour before going into indefinite hiatus (however, looks like Thrice is coming back this year!). I’ve been a tremendous fan of Thrice since The Illusion Of Safety was released and became a lifelong fan once I heard Artist In The Ambulance. Kensrue released a solo album called Please Come Home in 2007 and performed just a handful of dates around the country to support it. One of them being in NYC the same year at The Knitting Factory. I was there. Solo. And, it was one of the most beautiful nights I’ve ever had.
I think one of the best love songs ever written came out of this beautiful, bearded man’s mouth. His “Pistol” is what he nicknamed his wife and the song is titled and dedicated to her, his “Pistol.” Listen to it below and catch Dustin Kensrue perform with Jon Foreman of Switchfoot, and The Summer Set at House Of Blues Orlando on Saturday, January 31, 2015 (win tickets below).
Jon Foreman is a beautiful man all around. His voice, his looks (no homo, well, maybe a little bit), his musicianship, and his stage presence are all summarizable qualities in what makes this man great. Just look at him!

Fun Fact: To Write Love On Her Arms actually purchased one of Jeff’s photos he took and is actively using it for t-shirt tags! 🙂
Jon Foreman put out four EPs from 2007 – 2008, one for each season, titled Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer (in case you didn’t know the four seasons). One of my favorite tracks he put out is from the Fall EP titled, “The Cure For Pain.” There’s a fan-shot video of the song which is so tremendously humanizing for Jon. Yes, we’re on first name basis after watching that video. Check it out:
I’ve attended a couple of these “Heavy & Light” shows put on by the not-for-profit organization, To Write Love On Her Arms. One of the cool things about the evening is that it’s not just music. They tag it as “a night of songs, conversation, and hope.” There’s inspiring individuals sharing their personal stories about their lowest points in their lives, how hard they hit rock bottom, and how they got back up and overcame their challenges. It’s a beautiful, postive experience.
