TICKET GIVEAWAY: Andrew WK | It’s Not a Show, It’s a Party! | Coming To The Social Orlando | January 30 2015

I went to Ozzfest in 2002 to see two bands: System of a Down and Andrew W.K. Unfortunately, Andrew W.K. opened the show at noon while System of a Down played right before Ozzy at the end of the day. I had to sit through a lot of horrid bands that day but it was all worth getting there early to see Andrew W.K. I was only familiar with his first single, “Party Hard” at that point but I was positive that a person that passionate about partying would have to put on a great show. Andrew W.K is a true party god. It was a party on stage and I still have not seen another band get the crowd as pumped up as Andrew W.K. did that day (and early, too). I went into this short thirty minute set knowing one song and I came out a full-fledged Andrew W.K. fan.

Andrew W.K. will be “Partying Hard in the Sunshine State” for three Florida dates in Miami, St. Petersburg, and Orlando at The Social on Friday January 30 2015 (Win Tickets To The Orlando Show Below). The entire Shows I Go To staff is going to this one and we would love to party with you!

Andrew W.K.’s debut album, I Get Wet, is a party-rock classic that was ahead of its time. No one had been able to successfully blend hard rock with classical piano until Andrew W.K. This album did not receive great reviews when it was first released but over the years it has obtained “cult classic” status. This album featured the iconic, yet controversial, “bloody nose” cover. Andrew hit himself in the face with a brick to make sure he achieved the perfect shot. In honor of the 10^th anniversary of I Get Wet, the band went on a full tour for the first time in years playing the album from start to finish. Check out the party that is Andrew W.K. live:

Andrew W.K.’s talents extend far beyond his music. In 2008, he opened his own concert venue in downtown New York City called Santo’s Party House. He has also had a successful career as a motivational speaker, appearing as a keynote speaker at both Yale and New York University. Andrew W.K. appeared at a My Little Pony convention, giving a speech on “How to Party like Pinkie Pie” and he has hosted his own shows on both MTV (Your Friend, Andrew W.K.) and Cartoon Network (Destroy Build Destroy). In June 2003, he set a world record for drumming for 24 hours straight. He also has an awesome pizza guitar (see below).
