Festival lineups typically evolve. There is a splash at first, then more bands join the fray and finally, a tantalizing name or three come on board shortly before the show. The initial splash is the most intriguing part. Will the organizers wade in or flop over on their back like a drunken uncle? Or, will they hush us all and yell “CANNONBALL” before blasting an announcement that all of our musical heroes will be in attendance?
Suwannee Roots Revival returns to the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park this fall. We can safely say the fall festival has been revived with an enormous cannonball into the Suwannee River. Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn. The Wood Brothers. Steep Canyon Rangers. The legendary Peter Rowan. Verlon Thompson and Shawn Camp playing a tribute to Guy Clark. This is just a cursory look at the lineup. Jim Lauderdale is back. Rev. Jeff Mosier will bring a band. And, of course, thankfully Donna the Buffalo will be in attendance.
Festival director Beth Judy says it best,
Our goal is festival therapy. We want each person to experience the festival in such a way that when they leave, they are better than when they arrived. The unique participation of the musicians at such a soul level, combined with an open, loving community, placed in the aptly named Spirit of the Suwannee, creates the perfect environment for letting go of the cares of your regular life. This makes it a healing event. But it’s the most fun you ever had getting healed!”
Tickets are on sale now and just $155. The price includes camping and all of the incredible performances mentioned above, which would be a fine deal in itself. The lineup for Suwannee Roots Revival includes much more and will surely continue to wow. Impressively, in a throwback to the old Bear Creek Festival, Suwannee Roots Revival is offering a payment plan at no additional charge. This is truly a grassroots festival and not to be missed.
