WIN TICKETS BELOW! The Set In Stone Tour stops in Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday for a sold out show, then hits Orlando before before stops in Jacksonville and Tallahassee. Only a few tickets are available for Orlando so get them ASAP if you wanna enjoy the show. Opening the Orlando show are Fortunate Youth and Raging Fyah.
Stick Figure features guitarist/singer Scott Woodruff, a self-taught musician with a vibrant sonic soundscape. The newest release, Set in Stone, is his sixth album and was written, produced and recorded by Woodruff, as were all of the previous releases. An intuitive and accomplished producer, Woodruff is an intuitive and accomplished producer and plays all of the instruments on all of his studio albums. He crafts authentic artistry from the foundation of roots-dub reggae with cavernous grooves, sparkling electronic orchestration and thick rhythms. On tour, his band consists of KBong (Keyboards and Vocals) Tommy Sulliman (Bass) and Kevin Offitzer (Live Drums). And always joinng them on stage is Woodruff’s best friend, his dog Cocoa. Check out these awesome photos of Cocoa that I captured at their show last year in Cocoa where they opened up for Slightly Stoopid and Dirty Heads!
The new album Set In Stone includes 14 songs which were three years in the making. The album entered at Number One on the Billboard and iTunes Reggae Charts. Hypnotic rhythms and singable choruses navigate a complex emotional spectrum from pensive introspection to joyful celebration.
A few of these new songs were heard by the crowd at last years Suwannee Hulaween festival at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. Here’s video of most of the set, thanks to The Sober Goat!
Set in Stone features guest artists who have inspired Woodruff. Kyle McDonald from Slightly Stoopid is featured on “Choice is Yours”; Eric Rachmany of Rebelution, a band that invited Stick Figure to open on their Amphitheatre tour, joins on “Mind Block” and Collie Buddz fires it up on “Smokin’ Love.” On the mic for “Smiles on Faces” is KBong. I last saw Stick Figure in Cocoa when they opened up for Slightly Stoopid and Dirty Heads. Due to rain and lightning, this set was stripped down and the band played a somewhat acoustic stripped-down set. Check out the video of “Smokin’ Love” thanks to The Sober Goat!
And check out this video of “Livin’ It” thanks to The Sober Goat from their last appearance at The Beacham in July 2013, it’s one of my favorite tunes of theirs.
Fortunate Youth is a collaboration of South Bay reggae stand-outs. Rising from various bands, they’ve created a phenomenal 6-piece masterpiece bringing more fire to the stage than ever before. Combining rootsy vibes and unique bass lines united with multiple harmonies, boisterous guitar solos, and heavy keys separates Fortunate Youth from every other mainstream reggae band. With their high energy approach and positive stage presence they provide an unforgettable show to every music fan.
Raging Fyah is regarded as one of Jamaica’s most promising young acts. Their music is tethered to their island’s enduring, much emulated roots rock reggae tradition yet is distinguished by an expansive vision that propels their musical journey forward. The band received critical acclaim for the intricate harmonies, nuanced musicianship and impressive songwriting skills. Raging Fyah collectively writes their songs, many conveying personal meaning while simultaneously addressing wider issues.
