Reggae On The Block 2016 Ticket Giveaway

TICKET GIVEAWAY: Reggae On The Block | Washington Street, Downtown Orlando, FL | Saturday, May 7, 2016

by • April 30, 2016

In Adam Sandler’s skit “The Goat” from his album What The Hell Happened To Me released in 1996, one of my favorite lines that I still say to this day is, quoth the goat, “Ooohh, the-ahh ragoo-ahh festival … So you gotta go to the big ragoo show, eh? The ragoo festival? Maybe I could tag along, that’d be fun, ya know? We could do the moshpit, throw me around, put me on the moshpit, pass me around. Ya know? CRANK IT UP FU#%ERS!” His human friends then inform him that they only have three tickets (doh!). DONT’ BE LEFTOUT LIKE THE GOAT! ENTER THE CONTEST TO WIN TICKETS!

(Editor’s Note: I love that Richie “The Sober Goat” Williams started this article with a skit called “The Goat.”)

The third annual Reggae On The Block music festival returns to Downtown Orlando on Saturday, May 7, 2016 and features performances by The Expendables, Chronixx & Zincfence Redemption, Collie Buddz, Common Kings, J. Boog, John Brown’s Body, Passafire, The Movement, The Expanders, Sammy J, Mike Love, Hirie, Wheeland Brothers, Lindsay Perry (Billabong), 74 Sound System, and Lance-O of Kulcha Shok.

This will be The Expendables third time playing Orlando in six months. They rocked the Hard Rock Live back in November opening for Sublime With Rome, and they burned the House of Blues down headlining in January. When it comes to surfer reggae with dashes of hard rock and punk, these dudes are one of the tops.

The Movement are one of my personal favorites on the lineup. Drummer and good friend Gary Dread is an Orlando resident who I run into at almost every reggae show I go to (he’s also a DJ as various bars/clubs in town as well). Don’t miss these guys, who are sure to have a standout performance.

For over 20 years, John Brown’s Body has been spreading the love of music through their intricately-balanced future roots reggae dub. I first saw them at Bear Creek Music Festival in 2010 and I’m stoked to see them again.

Progressive dub rockers Passafire never fail to get a party started. Hailing from Savanah, Georgia, they have become a perpetually touring band playing with bands like 311, Rebelution, Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, Matisyahu, The Wailers, and many more.

HIRIE and The Expanders both bring that tropical island vibe to the party. The Expanders can do an awesome cover of any Bob Marley song. HIRIE features elegant vocals from their frontwoman who I had the pleasure of meeting just last week at House of Blues — where they opened for Iration. Check out my pick with HIRIE!
