Naughty Professor is a forward thinking music endeavor pioneered by six young musicians from around the country, now anchored in New Orleans, Louisiana. Formed in 2011, the band’s mission was to embody the jazz-influenced party culture of the Big Easy in a constantly evolving, high energy funk/soul outfit. Naughty Professor’s live performances, which weave together complex compositions and loose individual improvisation, quickly commanded the attention of many notable musicians in town, including George Porter Jr., Galactic, and The Revivalists. With fresh recorded material in the works and a rigorous tour schedule planned for 2015 and beyond, Naughty Professor is poised to soon become the next household name associated with the echelon of New Orleans music.
Naughty Professor has shared the stage with artists such as Galactic, Snarky Puppy, Victor Wooten, Rebirth Brass Band, Fitz and the Tantrums, The Revivalists, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Papadosio, George Porter Jr., The Soul Rebels, and many more. They were nominated alongside Galactic, Nigel Hall, George Porter Jr. and Jon Cleary for OffBeat Magazine’s “Best of The Beat” music awards for Best R&B Funk Artist and Best R&B Funk Album in New Orleans.
A hodgepodge of jazz influenced instrumental tom-fooleridity, Squeedlepuss was formed in Jacksonville, Florida by Adam Kenneway (bass), Erik Lofgren (keys), Javian Francis (keys), and Stefan Klein (drums). Their first show was opening for Mike Dillon’s band – the famed vibrophonist who played with Les Claypool (Primus). Within a couple of months, the great chemistry they experienced and musical potential of the band led them to recruit Paul Miller (guitar/vocals) and Dan Hunting (guitar).
In addition to opening for Mike Dillon Band and playing regularly around the Jacksonville, FL area, Squeedlepuss has also had the privelege of opening for such touring acts as Consider The Source, Toubabe Krewe, Bernie Worrell Orchestra, The Nth Power, and The Fritz. At Bear Creek Music and Arts Festival (Nov, 2013) they shared the bill with The Roots, Bootsy Collins, Lettuce, The New Mastersounds, amongst many others. In May of 2014 they played Purple Hatter’s Ball where they shared the bill with Beats Antique, The Motet, The Nth Power, and many others. The band has also been touring around the Florida area.
Squeedlepuss is fortunate to have several great writers/arrangers that share a common vision and who collaborate to make music that is eclectic, interesting, and heartfelt. As Paul Miller puts it, “We’re just a bunch of jazz nerds who love all kinds of music.”
The Get 2nds are a side project from members of Orlando’s own funky jazz band Leisure Chief, consisting of Nick Bogdon (Guitar/Lead Vox), Keegan Matthews (Organ/Keyboards/Vox) and Derek Engstrom (Drums/Lead Vox).
