I’m not sure if there is a more stacked lineup this Fall than the “Alternative Press Tour” which includes Mayday Parade, Real Friends, This Wild Life, and As It Is. If you follow any of their social media accounts then you know that they all get on so well and are having a ball. Orlando is the last stop on the tour, let alone the night before Thanksgiving which means, no work the next day. This also means, these dudes are going to shake down the walls of the House of Blues in true punk style on November 25. You do not want to miss this (WIN TICKETS BELOW!).
Fresh off the Vans Warped Tour this summer and their first album release in April, the boys from across the pond, As It Is, are ones to watch. They played every single date this year at Warped and have put in some serious work over the past couple of years. Fearless Records took them on in 2012 and they actually spent a lot of 2014 in Florida working on their debut album, Never Happy, Ever After. What started out as a post online from lead singer, Patty Walters, to find some bandmates has turned into a full blown career. This is definitely one of those, ‘get there early or be sorry’ things. 😉
This Wild Life is perhaps, the odd one out of the bunch. They are completely unplugged. It was never their intention to be strictly acoustic but the style was much easier on lead singer, Kevin Jordan’s vocal chords. The band is comprised of friends, Kevin Jordan and Anthony Del Grosso, on guitar. This twosome will rip your heart out with a pluck of a string. Down to earth is the most accurate and ironic way to describe these melodies as their debut album is aptly titled, Clouded. Fame originally found them when they covered “Sleepwalking” by Bring Me The Horizon. Frontman for BMTH, Ollie Sykes, liked the cover so much he added it to their album as a bonus remix. Now, they have their own signature sound and have been crushing every opportunity given to them.
I’ve never walked out of a Real Friends show and been anything but absolutely beaming. The Illinois Sad Boyz are one of pop punk music’s greatest treasures. Dan Lambton, lead singer, has a unique tone and an innate sensibility of reading a crowd. The band as a whole has been quite loud in the music scene about keeping one another safe and looking out for each other. That can be difficult in a Real Friends show as the pit is a swirling vat of flannel, angst, and sweat. However, at every show, there is always a moment of realization as clarity wafts over the crowd; we are here because we felt alone and yet, here we are, together. It’s deeply imbedded in every lyric this band screams-out, that it gets better. In your car, in your room, at the laundromat; punk music is so damn good when you feel so damn bad. Real Friends is proof.
Now it’s time ladies and gentlemen, for Florida’s very own, Mayday Parade. The Tallahassee natives have been punk-rock’s sweethearts since 2006. They’ve come a long way since then and are coming off of their fifth studio album released this past October, Black Lines. They are the main attraction of the revival of the Alternative Press tour and rightly so. The boys are to the emo scene what eyeliner was to Pete Wentz in 2009; so yea, pretty damn important. Hopefully they will play some old favorites and grace us with their new sound as well.
A night of punk debauchery is in store for all, so bring your friends, feelings, and lace your converse up tight. Don’t have tickets? Now’s your chance to win!
