TICKET GIVEAWAY: Lights w/ The Mowgli’s | Coming to House of Blues Orlando | Wednesday, November 11, 2015

If EDC was out of your budget or perhaps, maybe strangers smacking their lips and gyrating to Calvin Harris’ beats isn’t really your cup of tea but you still love to rave, then look no further than LIGHTS with The Mowgli’s at the House of Blues on November 11th (WIN TICKETS BELOW).

The pint sized singer packs a punch for such a small package. It’s no surprise, though. Her sophomore LP, Siberia, was well received and full of dubstep beats backed by powerful vocals. The newest record, Little Machines, is brimming with dreamy, techno tracks all the same but they didn’t come so easy this time. After feeling creatively blocked, the Canadian native took a hiatus from writing to find the root of her mental hang ups. Plagued with self-doubt and thoughts that every success seen before was only a mirage, LIGHTS was paralyzed by the idea of writing a new album. Luckily for us, she became a mother, she gained perspective, and she allowed herself to go back to basics. The singer found the fifteen year old girl in herself who started this journey so long ago and Little Machines was born.

This new album features the anthem, “Up We Go,” which will have you contorting yourself in every geometric shape possible from start to finish. Other tracks she is sure to play at the upcoming show include “How we do it” and “Running with the Boys.” Each one is a testament to her perseverance. The singer is quoted as saying on her music page, “ You want to make something you’re proud to leave behind
 Legacy suddenly becomes a thing.” She is sure to leave a legacy and a night to remember at the House of Blues on Wednesday.

The Mowgli’s are the best explained by their self-described mantra and motto, ‘Love is all you need.’ It’s evident in every song that they write and note that they sing, their intention is to spread love; to be love.

The seven piece band consisting of Colin, Katie, Spencer, Dave, Andy, Matthew, and Josh (phew!) are from California. These sunshine kids are coming off of their new album, Kids in Love. They’ve sited themselves as more mature on this album as they address the theme of love more directly. The Mowgli’s are truly a bright spot on this tour, radiating pure joy from every pore in their bodies. Their song “Whatever Forever” is practically straight out of the film 500 Days of Summer accompanied by a clapping back track and what I imagine to be a flash mob of Central Park goers. It’s an attitude that the sun will rise and the sun will set but it’s all truly in what you make of it. So, make yourself in attendance and you’re sure to feel your toes beginning to tap with the undeniable rhythm of these soul-sharing songs.
