SONGS I GROOVE TO — Keegan Mathews /// “Supernova Cosmic Killer”

by • April 19, 2020

Captain’s Log: “Stardate 11098.3 of The Quarantine. Flying through space at a leisurely pace, a smug grin on my face, as I pump up the bass. Set phasers set to stun as I’m staring at the sun, explosions in the sky got me feeling so bright.”

These are the non-existent opening lyrics I improv to myself as I listen to the latest instrumental single from Keegan Mathews, “Supernova Cosmic Killer” which was released back in December 2019. The three-minute track begins with deep bass kicks alternating with rapid taps of the high hat. Colorful keyboard rhythms prominently paint a spacey supersonic soundscape of heavy synth that dances with a funky beat worthy of steady head-nodding. Set your spaceship to cruise control as this tune takes you on a triumphant trip through the cosmos.

Follow Keegan on Instagram and keep an ear out for his next single which is planned to be released sometime in Fall 2020. Keegan plays the keys in local Orlando band Leisure Chief who are well known for their funk, soul, R&B, and jazz-fusion jams. The group has been working hard on a new full-length album, also set to be released this fall.
