Katchafire at The Social 2017

Reggae going down… on a Tuesday. New Zealand roots reggae juggernauts Katchafire returned to Orlando to play a chill yet hype show at The Social, bringing with them Maui, Hawaii’s first original roots reggae band Inna Vision.

Inna Vision just released a five song EP, Highest Grade, on March 3, 2017. The project is considered a cross over release with a fusion of Reggae, Dancehall and Hip-hop. Their message is simple. The goal is to spread Aloha and positive vibes from Hawaii to the world, striving to inspire lives with self motivation, understanding and acceptance.

This was my first Inna Vision show, and I had never really listened to them before, so I had a raw introduction. From the first song I was constantly noddin’ and would soon get to steppin’. Their sound melts roots reggae, skank style, and hip-hop. Lead singer Koa Lopes, who founded the band in 2005, was definitely in the zone and spitting the hot fire from the heart. His lyrics are consciously uplifting with great tone and flow. At a few points in the show, I thought about the singing styles of Damian Marley, Shaggy, and Bone Thugs. Every song was accompanied with booming bass lines from Kekolu Pavao (of The Steppas) that made for righteous rhythms over the bumping beats. I’m pretty sure most of the band are from The Steppas… I think. It was the drummer’s birthday, so after a day at Universal, he rocked his own awesome birthday party to the core. I ended up meeting the drummer, Koa and Kekolu later while getting a drink at the bar.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

It's my Gs @lup_strong Birthday🤘🏽🍁 See ya at #TheSocial #Orlando tonight! 3.28 – Orlando, FL3.29 – Pensacola, FL3.30…

Inna Vision’s set left me stuck with their positive messages: love & learn, fix up your attitude, change up your gratitude, work hard, life’s too short, don’t take things for granted, etc. Check out our Instagram videos of “Prosper and Earn” & “Real Type of Cop” and our Periscope live stream of “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt” (shout out to Yellowman!).

“Got to keep moving, no matter how much times life tries to bring us down.”

After set break, Katchafire came out and the energy never stopped flowing. The music hardly ever stopped as the band perfectly transitioned from one song to the next. They were smiling and dancing on stage in such purity that you couldn’t help but move your body. Everywhere I looked people were dancing… it was impossible not to get pulled into the jams. I can’t say what all from their archives they did or didn’t play, but a few of my friends there could tell you everything you wanted you know. There was a good sized crowd of old fans and new, young and old, from here or there, from near and far. The percussionist took over for the drummer while he came in front of the kit to lead sing a song. Katchafire welcomed Inna Vision on stage at the end of the set for a cover of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” reminding us to “Don’t worry, about a thing….” I left the show with a positive outlook and stronger attitude about everything.

Seriously, its been a long time. Since I’ve heard from thee, Since you dropped me a line. Well I know, What you’ve been going through, And I know, What I’ve been telling you, Girl seriously give me another one.”

My night was capped off with a bit more music as I ventured two blocks away to Tanqueray’s for The Groove Orient’s regular Tuesday night residency, which just so happened to be featuring a special guest, Joe Marcinek. That’s how you end a night downtown after a show at The Social.
