Hunter Valentine unexpectedly blew me away in Orlando with Sick Of Sarah at Southern Nights (formerly RBarr) in 2014. Hunter Valentine are finally coming back to Orlando for their “Farewell For Now Tour” at Will’s Pub on Sunday, February 21, 2016, doors at 9:00 pm (win tickets below).

I love discovering new music. I had no idea what to expect from Hunter Valentine. I’ve learned when there are zero expectations, you can relax and open your mind, which often leads to the best kind of surprises. Hunter Valentine were one of my best surprises of 2014.

Hunter Valentine frontwoman, Kiyomi M, offered true beauty in her delivery of passion. In a whisky-flavored form, she beautifully falls against each sound, only to gracefully jerk back up to push note after note back into her black microphone. She commands her audience with her hypnotic, bi-polar soft-to-intense gazes. I found myself hooked, like a fish traveling across the seafloor, nibbling on some Hunter Valentine before suddenly being reeled right out of the water and into their rockin’ boat. I was made into a fan that night.

Side Note: Later that night, I got super drunk and fell down the stairs into a wheelbarrow (allegedly) at Dainon‘s house, but still managed to wake up still reeling from Hunter Valentine’s performance. Read “Hunter Valentine Live Review and Falling Down The Stairs.”

The next day, I looked up Hunter Valentine’s “Related Artists” section of their Spotify profile, and number two was fucking Brand New, followed by greats like Tegan and Sara, Rilo Kiley, Manchester Orchestra, and Paramore (this has changed a bit now).

Hunter Valentine announced they are taking one last trip around the country for their “Farewell For Now Tour 2016.” Catch them in Orlando for what may be their very last Orlando show ever, at Will’s Pub on Sunday, February 21, 2016, doors at 9:00 pm. Opening the night is Orlando’s own, Milka.
