Lead singer Dave King was born in Dublin, Ireland and is no stranger to playing rock music, citing The Clash and Johnny Cash as some of his greatest influences. When he collaborated with his band mates in Los Angeles, they came up with a fast-paced, fiddle-heavy Celtic sound that quickly developed a strong following. There is an implied sense of community and instilled feeling of intimacy that keeps the fans coming back.
It’s been five years since the Irish-Celtic punk rockers released an album. However, they did just release a new single which you can download on Apple Music titled “The Hand of John L. Sullivan” honoring the Irish-American boxer of the same name. It is also the first studio recording with new drummer Mike Alonso. It sounds great, feels good, and has a nice mix of folk and rowdy.
This music is nothing but fun. They have sold over a million albums and are known for their high energy live shows and their politically conscious lyrics. It’s the prefect mixture of both hard rocking Irish and thoughtful slow paced songs. Whatever the case may be, hold your fist up high in the air, jump in the pit, and sing along loud and proud because everyone’s Irish when Flogging Molly comes to town.
