There’s a lot of really great musicians in Orlando. And then, there’s Travis Adams, lead vocals and bass in Orlando’s, Field Kit. I was a big fan of his previous band, My Hotel Year, and have since become a personal friend of Adams’. When you become friends with someone, a lot of times you learn what’s beneath the projected surface of the person — the battles we all face daily. I’ve learned that he’s nearly blind in both his eyes, he struggles with depression (like me), he enjoys exploring himself, alone, in existential ways, and, most importantly, he’s a fighter — for himself. He fights for something no one can take away — his incredible ability to creatively express his passion for music and art, sporadically stapled to his heart. He’s the guy all your friends in bands look up to, and he’s absolutely fucking beautiful.

With his newest project, Field Kit, Adams explores a unique brand of progressive post-punk with intelligent vocals over intricate mathematics, layered by drummer Brandon Gibbs and guitarist Matthew Kipp. It makes my 2000s punk rock heart comfortable, yet keeps my emo soul on-hook. There’s a bit of At The Drive-In, Refused, RX Bandits, and even old Foo Fighters! Check the whole album, I Have Sent You a Deadly Animal. Favorite tracks: “Beware the Carolina Butcher,” “Feed the Abaasy All That You Own,” “The Exception of the Infant Panther,” and “And so Begins the Wild Hunt.”

Field Kit is performing at Will’s Pub in Orlando, FL on Friday, February 12, 2016. Joining them will be ex-My Hotel Year vocalist/guitarist, Ryan Fleming’s new band Copper Bones, as well as Jernigan, and Elevators. It’s only 5 bucks, starts at 9pm, and is 21+. We won’t be missing this one.
