It was around 2000 when his first album came out. The album was Lounge Against the Machine, which is what he would eventually go on to name his backing band. I can’t remember where I was or what song it was when I first heard the magic of Richard Cheese and his Los Angeles-based cover band and comedy act, performing popular songs in a lounge/swing style a la Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Tony Bennett. But what I can remember is how hysterically awesome it was. I’m pretty sure I was laughing so hard I cried. For example, that first album included “Smack My Bitch Up” by The Prodigy, “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails, and “Rape Me” by Nirvana
 hearing those songs swankified in the fancy sophisticated stylings of a jazzy lounge band was the craziest thing I had ever heard. It was quite possibly the most innovative comedy act I had come across at a time when I was 16 years old and diving deep into music. Somehow, I have not been to one of his shows yet, so I’m beyond excited to finally witness one of my favorite comedy musicians live in person.

Sixteen years later, many albums released, and countless shows played, Richard Cheese is still blending genres and creating lounge music fans out of a classic metal head, turning hip-hop fans onto pop rock, and getting music and comedy lovers together. His new studio album released in 2015 Supermassive Black Tux” features 17 swingin’ lounge versions of popular rock and rap songs including “Sharp Dressed Man” by ZZ Top, “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden, “Watch Me Whip” by Silento, “Gangnam Style” by Psy and “Everlong” by Foo Fighters.  Comedy and music aficionados of all types, come on out to the show!
