by • October 16, 2015

The week in Hip Hop news is winding down. As usual, it was a busy one! From controversial election comments to Hip Hop moguls testifying in court, here are some of the biggest stories and headlines that hit hardest over the past seven days.

TIMBALAND AND JAY Z TESTIFY IN COURT OVER “BIG PIMPIN”

It’s one of the most popular tunes of Hova’s career. Now he and super producer Timbaland have to defend their creation. According to Billboard, in testimony this week, Jay Z told a court that he “didn’t think there was a sample” in the music Timbaland produced for the single “Big Pimpin” way back in 1999. Turns out, Timbo may have sampled the Egyptian tune “Khosara Khosara” without the proper clearance. Will this turn into another “Blurred Lines” fiasco? We can only wait and see.

TIP’S HILLARY CLINTON COMMENT DEBACLE

“Not to be sexist, but I can’t vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman.” Those were the words of TIP, formerly T.I., in a sit down with DJ Whoo Kid as he indirectly took a shot at Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The Atlanta rapper has since apologized more than once via Facebook and Twitter. His claim? That they were merely jokes and were said in on a radio show where outrageous things are accepted. Read about TIP’s original comments here and peep the apology below.

On the heels of his critically acclaimed Cadillactica, K.R.I.T teamed with DJ Drama to drop It’s Better This Way unexpectedly on October 14. Probably shouldn’t have been much of a surprise, as K.R.I.T.’s mix tape game is infamously way strong. There are even reports that he’s set to release a new album in 2016. It’s Better This Way continues a steady stream of soulful, sought-after mix tapes by K.R.I.T. Stream it now on DatPiff.
