Suwannee Hulaween 2016

Hulaween’s Schedule Has Us Howling With Excitement!

by • October 14, 2017

Owwwww Owww Owwwww!!! Suwanee Hulaween is just around the corner and I’m so excited I’m howling at the moon! Ready to see this stellar lineup, amazing art and theatrics, the beautiful Spirit of Suwanee Music Park, and of course all of my festival family! I’ll be easy to pick out of a crowd: I’ll be the guy with the coat hanger smile!

Okay, so since I last posted, the festival unleashed the festival theme for the weekend: NIGHT OF THE LOVING DEAD. I am all for a night of zombies and ghoulish costumes, love, and good music! And just recently they have announced the full schedule for the weekend. So check this out and start planning now… after a quick glance you’ll see there isn’t much time for eating or sleeping, this festival is packed to the gills with outrageous music.

Okay, I know that is a ton of information to digest.  We’ll get right to it with some of the more difficult choices: Zach Deputy vs. Kyle Hollingsworth Band on Thursday, then on Friday: Nth Power (Bob Marley Set) vs. The Polish Ambassador @ 1:45 is so tough, as well as Phish’s Mike Gordon vs. the rising Space Jesus; not to mention the unspeakable Greensky Bluegrass vs. Dirty Dozen Brass Band conflict. I’m also struggling to comes to terms with Marian Hill vs. Beats Antique on Saturday @ 6:15 as well as the Ween vs. Lotus conflict on Sunday evening. That being said, all festivals have this issue and its a wonderful problem to have: this lineup is stacked!

And the sweet spots of the schedule?  It’s a fact I won’t see camp on Thursday: Spafford > Lettuce > Umphrey’s Mcgee > Joe Russo’s Almost Dead > Umph > JRAD > Greensky Bluegrass is the best run of scheduled music this reviewer might could hope for!!  Friday’s String Cheese Incident > Lettuce > Bassnectar & New Mastersounds will be funky and heavy with BASS. Saturday is the real deal with the Meadow and the Amphitheater rocking big act after big act: Kamasi Washington > FKJ > SCI (theme set) > Marian Hill/Beats Antique > SCI will be crazy. And don’t forget about Displace at the Campground Stage either!

Yes, YES, YASSSS, its happening ghouls and gals, The 5th installment of Suwanee Hulaween is so close I can smell it and with the change in weather, you can feel the magic in the air!  So make your final plans people!  See you at the Spirit!

Alright so you’ve heard a few of the bands I’m excited for, but here are a few picks from my guests Dick (Richie Williams aka The Sober Goat) and Ballz (Mike Linebaugh):

BALLZ’ TOP TEN

Ween — Oddball Rock ‘n’ Roll legends
Damian Marley — Bob’s most talented son. New album is incredibly uplifting
Beats Antique — Pioneers in live music fusion integrated with performance art. (1st time for me…so stoked!)
Spafford — Coming into their own as one of the best jam bands on the scene
Here Come the Mummies — We want that funk… that mummy funk
Shiba San — Delightfully weird & fun deep house DJ
Nth Power Bob Marley Tribute — One of the tightest bands in the land playing the music of a icon
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead JRAD — brings those fast groove Dead songs to life
Magic City Hippies — Funky, fun, and unique. Up and coming band that puts on a hell of a show
Zach Deputy — The King of Bear Creek returns to park. Infectious and sooo danceable. He used to do random pop up shows throughout the park so keep your eyes and ears open

DICK’S TOP TEN

Shak Nasti
Mike Gordon
David Shaw (of The Revivalists)

Nth Power
