On October 26-29th, the enchanted woods of the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, in Live Oak, Florida will come alive with 20k+ of the best dressed ghouls and gals for a Halloween costume party like none other. The 10th Suwannee Hulaween is bursting with a musical lineup that features a stop by the Soundship Spacesystem Tour of long lost electro-soul producer Pretty Lights, Trey Anastasio Band of Phish, and tech-house giant John Summit. Other EDM heavyweights headlining Hulaween include Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist/producer Elderbrook, uplifting and ethereal Big Wild, and Compton-bred singer, rapper, producer Channel Tres. Two nights of indie-groove with Goose as well as a wonderfully weird time with Les Claypool’s Fearless Frog Brigade. The weekend is already overflowing with tasty talent as they sprinkle in two sets of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and roots rockers, Dispatch.
Oh, and did I mention, 3 days of The String Cheese Incident?! Oh yeah! This Suwannee Hulaween is destined to be the best, biggest, brightest party yet. Hulaween will also welcome neo-soul rapper Smino as the festival’s only hip-hop headliner, as well as a headlining set by five-piece indie rock band Mt. Joy. In addition, fans will enjoy a second set from Pretty Lights to fill in the hole left by addition and then sudden subtraction of Rainbow Kitten Surprise.
This year’s waterfall of talent doesn’t stop there. Oh no, they are bringing the music to the people with rising acts like trailblazer Moore Kismet, bass-focused producer supergroup Lab Group, and future-funk maestro Yung Bae. Don’t sleep on Montreal producer BLOND:ISH, underground bass purveyor Eprom, multi-faceted Italian DJ/producer duo Gioli & Assia, plus ascendant bass producer ISOxo. We wouldn’t dream of partying without Hula mainstays Manic Focus and funk-fusion ensemble Lettuce. Psychedelic funk jammers Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and critically-acclaimed, Anatolian rock/Turkish psychedelic folk outfit Altin Gün round out the next group.
By now Hulaween is a household name. The last of the large independent festivals, Hula now celebrates 10 years with their biggest lineup. The legend of Hula continues with an ever evolving Spirit Lake. Imagine strolling along the lake, where reality and imagination tangle and weave in a mesmerizing dance of fire, light, and projection mapping. Brace yourself for art that doesn’t just dazzle your eyes but takes your soul for a ride. And don’t even get started on the interactive installations that’ll make you feel like a kid in a candy store of creativity.
But Spirit Lake isn’t just about things you can stare at. It’s a symphony of experiences, with the Spirit Lake and Campground Stages hosting performances that’ll have you racing to tell your friends. And when the main stages take a bow and the night is still young, venture to the Silent Disco. There, under the stars, you can dance like nobody’s watching, until the first rays of sunrise pierce the sky.
