The Legend of Zelda series holds a special place in my heart for several reasons. I first encountered it in 1999 when I spent an entire summer in my bedroom playing on my Nintendo 64. I played games like Banjo Kazooie all the time (and have recently found out that you can still play it now using this banjo-kazooie rom) but it was Ocarina of Time which I really fell in love with. This was the most immersive virtual experience I had ever come across to date and it was nearly impossible for me to put the controller down. It was the first time I had ever connected emotionally to a video game and it actually made me feel like I was a hero. I was passionately determined to save the Kingdom of Hyrule from the clutches of one of the most powerful and sinister villains I could have ever imagined.

It didn’t take me long to realize that one of the main reasons I felt so drawn into this fantasy world was that it had such a beautiful, masterfully composed soundtrack. I would even go so far as to say that it seemed to resonate with me on a spiritual level. This is all thanks to the brilliance of Nintendo’s most prominent composer, Koji Kondo. He is also known for writing the tunes to the classic Super Mario Brothers and Star Fox titles along with most of the Legend of Zelda series.

This orchestral medley from various Legend of Zelda games may give you an idea of what kind of performance to expect, but there’s really nothing like experiencing a live symphony orchestra, especially with the cinematic visuals this production will offer.

I’m beyond excited to attend this show so I can finally hear live renditions of my favorite Legend of Zelda compositions and geek out with other fans of the series. 🙂 From what I understand, this performance will feature four symphonic movements with music from Ocarina of Time, the Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, a Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening, and more. I also expect the event will attract lots of fun cosplay costumes so it should be entertaining in all kinds of ways. I’m dressing up to get into the spirit of it all as well! 😉
