“It’s time for a change” is a phrase said by everyone in their lives at some point. Maybe it was time to get out of the bad relationship you were in. Maybe you were miserable at your day job and decided to travel the world while writing trendy blogs all the while selling advertising space to your local college or a credit union. When Dweezil Zappa decided it was time for a change, he meant to alter the way people viewed his father’s music. Frank Zappa was an icon of his time, but his son Dweezil felt he did not get the credit he truly deserved.

It has been 22 years since Frank Zappa died and the world lost an incredibly talented musician and composer. In 2004, Dweezil decided to try and find a way to bring his father’s music to the older and potential new audiences by studying his father’s music at the core. Accompanied by handpicked and highly talented musicians, Zappa has been playing and touring ever since in what could only be described as a spiritual journey through the roots of his DNA.
Dweezil has focused on every tiny detail there is to capture the essence and tone of his father’s guitar playing. From the type of gear he uses and even the way he holds his pick, his goal is to give the audience the feeling as if they are watching his old man up on stage once again. He hopes the Tampa Bay Area will truly understand his father’s genius when Zappa Plays Zappa comes to Jannus Live on Friday, September 11.
