I didn’t know that there was an award for “Best Club Banger,” did you? (Oh, you did? WELL, GOOD FOR YOU. I live under an invariably sheltered music rock, I suppose. TEACH ME!) Well, Queens-born, Atlanta-based rapper Waka Flocka Flame has the hardware as proof on his shelf from the BET Hip Hop Awards for his 2011 hit, “No Hands.” High-Five to the panel of people who decided because I can’t say I disagree. It does indeed make the club “bang.” Prepare yourself to dance with no hands and no inhibitions as Waka Flocka makes his way to The Social this Wednesday, February 17th (WIN TICKETS BELOW).

The rapper’s signature voice has littered many tracks other than his own with sly features for other artists the likes of Gucci Mane, The Cataracs, Borgore, Girl Talk, and the list goes on. It speaks volumes of an artist’s true colors when their repertoire is deep with features because it says they are sought after and moreover, respectable to work with. It says another working industry professional values their talent enough that they believe a verse, a line, a quick, “YEAH MANE,” will enhance their track and make it instantly more marketable. This also speaks volumes to me as a listener because in a world where rap beefs and feuds run rampant, (calling out Tay Swift again Kanye? Maybe she’s making you famous) it’s nice to think, perhaps naively, that there’s a community out there where these artists support each other.
That’s not to say Mr. Flame hasn’t had his fair share of drama, especially this past year as he turned the spotlight on his label, Atlantic Records, to release his third studio album aptly titled, Flockaveli ll. It’s been six years since the original Flockaveli and there have been several rumors of part 2 leaking since then. Although it has yet to drop, the rapper has said this of the pending record:
I want my fans to look at they haters like, ‘Told y’all my boy was gonna go hard. Fuck y’all.’ I want my fans to hear ‘Flockaveli II,’ and I want them to put a dread wig on and shake their head and rock with me.”
This Wednesday, The Social will turn into a trap hop dance floor, Waka Flocka Flame doors open at 8pm with DJ Whoo Kid starting the party. Get tickets below.
