Underoath are true Floridian heroes. Forming up in Ocala (inspiring those from the same place, A Day to Remember and The Royal Guardsmen), the initial lineup changed around a bit during their first three albums, all with a very heavy metalcore sound. After lead singer Dallas Taylor left and they recruited Spencer Chamberlain, the band took the misunderstood and unpopular genre to the mainstream with 2004’s They’re Only Chasing Safety & 2006’s Define the Great Line, were nominated for a Grammy for their follow up Lost in the Sound of Separation, and then, after one more album, 2010’s Ø, they went their separate ways, playing their final show at Jannus Live in 2013.

I can’t even begin to express how devastated I was when I missed out on their farewell show in St. Petersburg. My ride bailed on me, and thus, I thought I was never going to get closure with a band that had been so influential to expanding my musical spectrum. But as much as I was pained to not be there at the end, it made it oh so much better when I got to experience their rebirth. That comeback concert, at Jannus Live, not Crowbar (the actual first show back), was an absolute dream of a concert. It sold out incredibly quickly (with good reason) and I was able to secure a ticket for myself and Mitch (our founder and editor (and soon-to-be daddy) and we had the time of our lives! Easily one of the best shows in my many years of concerts. I’ve caught them a couple of times since, and while not as “cool” as being at that return show, they have been a better band altogether!

This time around, they’re touring to promote their new, awesome album that came out earlier this year, Voyeurist. I’ve only had the chance to listen to it a couple of times, but damn, she bangs! Here’s my favorite song off the album, “Thorn:”

Seriously, if you live in Florida and you haven’t seen Underoath, you are not doing the Florida experience right! Especially since they will be playing where so many memories have occurred, you know this show will be special. Beautiful clean and dirty vocals, chugging hardcore riffs, and one of the best light shows I’ve ever seen not on a major tour outside of pop stars! You gotta get out to St. Pete March 26th! Your ears and your soul will thank you! Plus, our new favorite band, Spiritbox is main support! Prepare to have your mind-blown when you watch the below video.
