My favorite band, Umphrey’s McGee, was welcomed yet again to the magical venue that is the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. This adventure was to celebrate Halloween weekend with The String Cheese Incident at their annual Suwannee Hulaween festival, the biggest and baddest festival to ever grace the park.
Umphrey’s was without a doubt the highlight of the Thursday pre-party as they played two rocking sets to get everyone hyped up for a rowdy weekend. Throughout the night, the boys busted out plenty of older classic material, including the opener “Rocker II” (personal fave and second time I’ve got it as an opener), as well as “Blue Echo,” “Resolution,” “Wife Soup,” “Nothing Too Fancy” (my fave song of the show), “Ocean Billy,” and one of their earliest jams, “Slacker.” The only cover that the band graced the crowd with was David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.”

Umphrey’s returned Friday evening for a one hour set that started with a great “In The Kitchen” (second show I’ve got a kitchen opener), and finished strong with a weird “1348” sandwiched around “Haji,” which somehow pair so good together. Friday also gave us “Cemetery Walk II” to follow up the part one counterpart from Thursday.
