One of the great things about writing is that I get to discover bands that I might have overlooked. Until recently, I always grouped Passafire in with all those reggae inspired bands like The Expendables, Rebelution and Iration. While Passafire does share some of the same qualities as those bands, I recently discovered Passafire is much better.

For the last few days I have been jamming Passafire’s latest record, Vines, which came out in 2013. This album is so much different than I expected. It definitely showcases the band’s matured sound that has developed over the past ten years. Their sound is a unique blend of reggae, progressive and dub.  I never realized how much these guys jam out! I can’t wait to see some of these songs performed live when they play The Social on November 29, 2014 with Florida’s own Kash’d Out and The Hip Abduction (win tickets below).

Passafire started in 2003 at Savannah College of Art and Design. These guys have released five studio albums and  toured constantly over the last decade. All the band members live in different cities but they try to tour at least six months out of the year so they can work on their music together.
