TICKET GIVEAWAY: Of Montreal | It’s Time to Get Weird! | The Social Orlando | Coming January 16 2015

I instantly became a fan of Of Montreal after seeing them perform “Heimdalsgate, Like a Promethean Curse” on an episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 2007. Over the course of a three minute song, frontman Kevin Barnes had over fifteen costume changes. I had never seen anything like it before, especially on a late night talk show. The next morning I rushed out to pick up a copy of their most recent album at the time Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? This is still my favorite Of Montreal album to date from start to finish. Although it was the theatrics that drew me in, after listening to this album it was their incredibly catchy songs that made me a fan.

I kept missing Of Montreal every time they came to town, for years. In 2011, I finally got to see them for the first time when they played Firestone Live (now Venue 578). This was hands down one of the weirdest shows I have ever been to in my entire life. At one point during the show, they threw a giant blow-up raft into the crowd and three people dressed in pigs suits got in and crowd surfed.

I knew the show was going to be crazy but it more than exceeded my expectations. I was able to catch them again last May at The Social which even furthered my love of the band. At this show, the stage was flooded with different characters throughout the night. There was even an all-out-war on stage between “He-Man” and “Skeletor.” I can only imagine what they have in store for us this time when they hit The Social in Orlando on Friday January 19, 2015 (win tickets below).

Of Montreal are one of the hardest working bands in the business. They have released twelve albums since 1997, each with their own unique style. Their upcoming album, Aureate Gloom, will be released on March 3, 2015. This record was influenced by bands like The Talking Heads and Television who were part of the 70’s music scene in New York. We should be hearing a preview of some of these songs when they play The Social.
