I’m a huge Bukowski fan. This is the first thing I read in Hank & Cupcakes’s bio: “Named in reference to notorious Charles ‘Hank’ Bukowski and one of his lovers ‘Cupcakes.'” I then made the very fortunate decision of checking out some of their music. Holy shit. This is going to be fun!
Hank & Cupcakes are redefining what Drum ‘n Bass means: Hank plays bass guitar with a myriad of effect pedals while Cupcakes sings and plays the mother-fuckin drums! The band formed in Israel, relocated to Brooklyn, and will be bringing their upbeat dance jams to Will’s Pub in Orlando, FL, on Friday, February 13, 2015 (win tickets below).
They just released their second album, Ca$h 4 Gold, which they recorded, produced and mixed themselves, DIY style (unlike Beyoncé). I can’t get off the ride this album is taking me on, it’s far too fun. Certainly check out the above video for the opening track “Bat Your Eyelids,” which we can’t get out of our heads. One of our favorite songs from their debut album, Naked!, is called “Hit,” but the video is NSFW. 😉
