I have passed over Donna the Buffalo’s name on the concert listings for years without knowing anything about them except they are pretty much always on tour. It wasn’t until recently when a friend showed them to me that I really started to get into them. After listening to just one song “Funky Side” (See below), I was hooked. This Wednesday, January 7, 2015, Donna the Buffalo will bring their jamming roots-rock live show to The Social in Downtown Orlando (win tickets below).

The chemistry between primary songwriters Tara Nevins (Multi-instrumentalist, vocals) and Jeb Puryear (Guitar, Vocals) is the driving force of this band. I quickly learned that although this band sounds great in the studio, a recording just doesn’t do them justice. Over the last month I have watched some of the countless live bootlegs that can be found on YouTube and it is their live show that has kept them going so long. These guys released their first album in 1989 and have been together over twenty five years.

Donna the Buffalo’s Cajun influences may make you think they are from Louisiana but they are actually from upstate New York. For years they have toured mostly on the East Coast and the Midwest but lately they have been playing all over, hitting festivals across the country.  Donna the Buffalo are regulars at Suwannee Springfest and Magnolia fest and they even curate their own music festival in their hometown of Trumansburg, New York. They have a huge underground fan base that call themselves “The Herd” who follow the band from show to show, just like “Deadheads” followed The Grateful Dead. 😉

They are fresh off a three night stint that included their annual New Year’s Eve show at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa. I was able to catch some of their free live stream of the show on their website and if Wednesday night’s show is half as amazing as that then we are definitely in for a treat.  This show will sell out the day of the show, if not sooner so get your tickets now.
