This tour rules. Thursday and Cursive have teamed up to a nation-wide tour and they’re bringing The Appleseed Cast with them to Central Florida for a Friday night (March 04, 2022) at House Of Blues in Orlando (GET TICKETS HERE!) Thursday was the first band I ever saw at a Warped Tour. My first Warped Tour, like 2003. Formed in 1997 in New Brunswick, NJ, Thursday quickly became my favorite post-hardcore band in high school and still remains my favorite to this day. A very, very close second is none other than Tim Kasher’s Cursive. You will certainly find my Thursday dove arm-tattoo flying high in the middle aged pit at this show.
The first time Thursday pierced my ears was when their video for “Understanding (In A Car Crash)” slipped into rotation on MTV (back when they used to play music videos). It was a live video of a sweaty, raw, emo performance tinged with hardcore roots. I was hooked. I told all my friends at school and we waited for the video to play every day after school. Now, we can just watch it on YouTube. Here you go:
After this, I purchased their album Full Collapse at FYE in a Gainesville mall. We listened to it all the way home with my best friend’s father unamused. I was eager to explore the feelings this record was boiling out of me. I started learning the drums around this time. Tucker Rule became a hero of mine. I looked up to his style, and how he learned the drums to play in this band (or, so I heard). I found inspiration in this, as I learned the drums to start my own band (listen here, be forewarned, this was almost 20 years ago, and the band was called Negative Progress, but Andrew Wade recorded it!). Even to this day, I still find inspiration from Tucker Rule. He’s performed in countless bands, on late-night TV, and overcome so much as a human to keep playing these songs that mean so much to so many of us. I could go on a tangent about every member (and touring member) of Thursday right here, but I’ll spare you for now.
Cursive is a band some of my best friends and I hold between us as legendary. Led by Tim Kasher (one of the kindest), Cursive spits truths at your ears urging you to think a little more deeply while reminding you you’re not the only one going through some bullshit. Formed in 1995 in Omaha Nebraska, Cursive released one of my favorite albums ever, The Ugly Organ. “This album is confusing” he once wrote on a vinyl copy of this record he humbly signed for me after a show. You can’t go to a Cursive show and leave not a fan of Tim Kasher. You’ll see.
The Appleseed Cast scored a 9.0 on a review from Pitchfork. This is almost unheard of for an emo band! formed in Lawrence, Kansas around 1997 as well. It’s so fitting these three bands are touring together. 25 years later, taking another cruise around the great states they conquered so long ago. We welcome them all with open arms here in Florida at the House Of Blues in Orlando. See you at show, maybe even in the pit (please don’t spill my beer, thanks).
