Oh, you hate the Dave Matthews Band? Oh, well, perfect. This is NOT the Dave Matthews Band coming to the House of Blues Orlando. It is The Dave Matthews Tribute Band, so … yea.

Nickelback. Dave Matthews. Anne Hathaway. Pumpkin Spice Latte’s. These entities have become widely known to be deeply rooted party topics for people to win over an unsure crowd. They have become idioms associated with the utmost of negative connotations. I’m not sure when it was decided that Hathaway was an “unlikeable bitch” or that Nickelback was like “flushing your ears with day old poop water,”(my words,) but it seems a tad brash to me (yes, the hypocrisy, I know). Everything comes in trends, moves in waves. I’m rarely caught without my favorite high-waisted “mom jeans” which would’ve been called awful, retro fashion about 10 years ago. In what dark bar do these sad rumors start? What bitter person scrawling on a whiskey-soaked napkin started this game of telephone that turned into hate speak for people’s blood, sweat, and tears aka their hard-earned careers?

The Dave Matthews Tribute Band pride themselves on being the only national touring band with the original Virginia boys namesake. Their homepage describes them as a “6-piece ensemble striving to pay homage to their famous counterparts by matching the excitement, energy, intensity and intimacy of a DMB live show.” It’s an odd concept, for the famous counterpart of which they speak of are not yet deceased. It begs the question, why form a tribute band? However, the very root of the word tribute is highlighted by its definition to show gratitude and pay respect to something. We narrow ourselves around the cultural view that tributes must be post-mortem but in all reality, if something is great now, why shouldn’t we celebrate it in plain view while we have this living thing at our fingertips? We’re told not to take things for granted and run through the rain, back to that bus stop and beg the girl to stay. To tell our nine-to-five boss to shove it and look out from the valley where we stand ready to pursue our inconvenient dreams. So, why are we so quick to shove aside musically gifted talent wanting to do the same thing?

The House of Blues is just the place to capture the big band, big sound type aura that these guys will bring. They have large shoes to fill and they’re ready. For the people between New York City and Philadelphia, the people between starting and sitting on the bench, this is the big leagues. These five guys from Chattanooga, TN are going to do what the OG DMB cannot, which is be in another place singing the same songs at the same time. BOOM. Suck it real Dave Matthews Band. The tribute band is known for their improvisational style based on the Matthews’ theme and is sure to have you dancing all the same.

I may be there … in a Chad Kroeger t-shirt, quoting The Princess Diaries, singing faux Dave Matthews jams. Eat your heart out, hipster gods.
