Space: the final frontier. This is the voyage of the band STARSET. The mission is a tour across America: To boldly rock where no man has rocked before. In other words, STARSET has blasted off on tour and is coming to Florida! See them at The Orpheum in Tampa on June 17th (TICKETS HERE) with support coming from RED and Fame on Fire, OR at the House of Blues Orlando on June 19th (TICKETS HERE) with support coming from RED and ONI (Canadian prog metal). Either way, you are in for an otherworldly musical experience.
Hailing from Salem, Ohio, Planet Earth, STARSET was formed in 2013 and has proven to be one of the freshest and most interesting acts in modern rock. And let’s be honest, besides Neil Armstrong and the Wright Brothers, STARSET is probably one of the better things to come out of Ohio. The group consists of Ron DeChant on bass, Brock Richards on guitar, Adam Gilbert on drums, and lead singer/sound production genius Dustin Bates. Their incredible sound has been described by Bates himself as “cinematic rock.” Having been inspired by the likes of Hans Zimmer, Nine Inch Nails, and Linkin Park, Bates had this to say about their sound, “…if a hard rock band did the soundtrack to an epic blockbuster movie…” He’s being humble of course. Their sound blends styles of metal, EDM, classical, and many more to create emotional, powerful, and electrically charged music. Let me put it to you this way, if they decide to turn Dune into a rock opera, I hope STARSET writes the soundtrack.
Since the band’s conception, they have found success through many artistic mediums. To say they are just a rock band is a gross understatement. For starters, the lore the band has created for themselves could take up the rest of this webpage. This winding road of musical storytelling not only spans across their four studio albums, but they have also developed a sci-fi graphic novel called “The Prox Transmissions” co-written by Dustin Bates and Peter David (Spider-Man 2099) and published by the one and only Marvel Comics. How wicked is that!? Please do yourself a favor and come out to see STARSET. Believe me, these guys aren’t just shooting for the stars, they are going to rule the galaxy.
