Here’s a rundown of some of the biggest hip hop news of the week, including the new album from Gorillaz and Gucci Mane’s new autobiography
KENDRICK LAMAR HINTS AT A NEW ALBUM ON INSTAGRAM
The Compton emcee has been busy. He’ll be headlining both the Coachella and Rolling Loud festivals after dropping a ton of guest verses. Still, that hasn’t stopped him from teasing his fans with the possibility of a new album in 2017. The curious Instagram post of a Roman numeral “4” suggests that a lot of things and nothing at the same time, and of course social media went nuts. We can only hope that Kendrick blesses us once again in 2017. Meanwhile, peep the new joint, “The Heat, Part 4” that he released just yesterday, which contains jabs towards Donald Trump and reportedly Big Sean.
NEW ALBUM FROM GORILLAZ, HUMANZ, IS COMING SOON
After releasing four singles (“Ascension”, “Andromeda,” with D.R.A.M., “Saturnz Barz” and “We’ve Got The Power”), the animated U.K. quartet announced their fourth studio album, Humanz. The album features guest spots by artists ranging from Vince Staples and De La Soul to Carly Simon and Grace Jones. Check out the video for “Saturnz Barz” below.
MISSY ELLIOT WILL HEADLINE L.A.’S FYF FESTIVAL
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Missy in Concert. But attendees of FYF Fest in Los Angeles will be treated to a performance by the Elliot along with Frank Ocean, Bjork, Erykah Badu and Nine Inch Nails July 21st thru 23rd. She’s also working on a solo album, her first since 2005’s The Cookbook.
GUCCI MANE WORKING ON AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Since leaving prison, Gucci has been hard at work, releasing three albums in 2016 alone. Now we can add author to his many titles, as The Autobiography of Gucci Mane will be released September 19. The book is co-written by journalist Neil Martinez-Belkin and can be pre-ordered on Amazon now. With the high profile nature and popularity of the artist, this autobiography will most likely already have a premade audience awaiting its release. In publishing, marketing your book well can be the difference between success and a flop and so this book really is in a prime position to do well upon its launch.
RUN THE JEWELS RELEASE VIDEO FOR “LEGEND HAS IT”
It’s chock full of dark humor, it’s sarcastic, it’s a guilty pleasure. It’s everything we love from Killer Mike and El-P. With their third studio album smashing the charts, RTJ have put together visuals with lots of powerful imagery and underlying messages with “Legend Has It.” Have a look-see below.
ANDRE 3000 COVERING THE BEATLES FOR RECORD STORE DAY
