Want a fresh perspective on why the final album by A Tribe Called Quest, or how Curren$y released his 10th mix tape of 2016 Here’s our take on some of the biggest stories of the past seven days.
A TRIBE CALLED QUEST TO RELEASE THEIR FINAL ALBUM
With assistance and appearances from Jack White, Andre 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes and Elton John, ATCQ will release their final album next week, entitled We Got It From Here, Thank You For Your Service. It’s of course a bittersweet moment with the death of founding member Phife Dawg earlier this year, but it’s still a welcome bit of good news for all fans of Tribe. It’s great to know that even through all the drama, the members of Tribe were able to bless us one last time. Check out the official cover art below.
LIL WAYNE APOLOGIZES FOR COMMENTS ON BLACK LIVES MATTER
Some would call Wayne’s comments ignorant, misguided, maybe even down right stupid, after he said he feels no connection to the Black Lives Matter movement. But Lil Weezy reportedly apologized for the comments, blaming them on the ABC News Nightline reporter he interviewed with asking him about how his sometimes misogynistic lyrics are perceived by his daughter and saying that agitated him. Well, ok then: thanks for clearing that up for us, Dwayne.
RUN THE JEWELS TO EMBARK ON MASSIVE TOUR IN 2017
El-P announced that the next RTJ album would be released by the first week of 2017 at the latest. Meanwhile, the duo of Killer Mike and El-P are hitting the road again starting in January for their next tour. They will start in Philadelphia at the Electric Factory on January 11 and hit cities including Cleveland, Atlanta, Orlando and Los Angeles. One thing you have to say about Mike and El: they always seem to give the people what they want.
BIG SEAN PREMIERES NEW TRACK “BOUNCE BACK” ON THE TONIGHT SHOW
The Detroit emcee and G.O.O.D. Music member graced the stage of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Halloween night to debut his latest single and gave us shades of his mentor Kanye West in doing so. Rumors and reports speculate that the song is about his former boo Naya Rivera, while some claim that they are about Jhene Aiko. Nevertheless, this proves that the Motor City’s number 2 son (behind Eminem) is ready to deliver more heat to us.
CHARLAMAGNE TO RELEASE A NEW BOOK THIS SPRING
Most well known as co-host of The Breakfast Club, Power 105.1’s flagship radio show, and as an MTV personality, Charlamagne is now set to release his first book, Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes To Those Who Create It. The book will serve as an autobiography of sorts, detailing Charlamagne’s rise to fame from his native South Carolina. Should be interesting to get his take on how to seize opportunity and run with it.
CURREN$Y RELEASES 10 MIXTAPES IN 2016
Curren$y is a model of the present day emcee doing things his way. He’s found success outside of the mainstream by tweaking the flood the market strategy for hip hop artists. And the latest proof is his 10th mix tape of 2016, Andretti 10/30, released the day before Halloween. The 10-track project can be streamed and purchased right now.
