by • August 26, 2016

Want a fresh perspective on the week in Hip Hop news? Here’s our take on some of the biggest stories of the past seven days.

CHANCE THE RAPPER TO HEADLINE LONDON’S APPLE MUSIC FESTIVAL

The 10th anniversary of the festival will be a ten-night extravaganza with some of the biggest names in music appearing. They include pop artists like Britney Spears and Elton John, R&B artists such as Alicia Keys, and current Hip Hop “It” artist Chance The Rapper. The festival will be streamed on Apple Music, as well. The festival kicks off September 18.

NEW A TRIBE CALLED QUEST ALBUM REPORTEDLY BE ON THE WAY

In a recent interview on the RapRadar Podcast with Elliot Wilson, L.A. Reid reported that the remaining members of Tribe had recently been in the studio to record, that something is coming and that it was “really something special” and that it would be arriving “very soon.” So maybe the reports that they had been working with Phife before his passing actually were true. Either way, we may be getting new ATCQ music very, very soon!

NEW DJ SHADOW VIDEO FEATURING RUN THE JEWELS

It’s politically charged, it’s satirical, it’s loud and passionate. It’s everything we’ve come to expect from Run The Jewels. Only this time, it’s a collaboration record with DJ Shadow. Have a peek at the new video for the powerful “Nobody Speak” off of Shadow’s album, The Mountain Will Fall, which is available on Mass Appeal Records.

MEEK MILL ANNOUNCES RELEASE DATE FOR DREAMCHASERS 4

It’s been an up and down year for Meek, but he may just be getting his swag back. He announced that the latest installment of his Dreamchasers series, Dreamchasers 4, is hitting the streets in September. Although Meek didn’t divulge the exact date on his Instagram message rest assured the streets will be watching, talking and waiting.

BIG BOI AND KILLER MIKE WORKING ON AN ALBUM

True, we have classics like “The Whole World”, “Snappin & Trappin” and “Thom Pettie” featuring Killa Kill and Daddy Fat Sax. But now it looks like the two legendary Atlanta emcees are working on a full-fledged project together, as Big Boi told SPIN magazine. This is one that is a long time coming! Now if we could only get that Andre 3000 solo project.

PANDORA NAMES QUESTLOVE FIRST EVER ARTIST AMBASSADOR

Add a few more titles to Questlove’s laundry list of jobs. In addition to hosting a weekly three-hour streaming show called Questlove Supreme, he will work closely with the service to offer his own insight as an artist for other talent, and aid with the overall product strategy of the company. All this to essentially say: be like Questlove.
