Hip Hop seemed to show a lot of growth and maturity this week. One of the longest beefs in Hip Hop history was squashed, and one of the music’s most popular voices even got a chance to talk to the President. But there were a ton of stories that got out attention this week. Here are a few of the most notable ones.
ANGIE MARTINEZ DROPS A NEW BOOK, “MY VOICE: A MEMOIR”
She’s one of the most recognizable and legendary voices in all of Hip Hop. Now, Power 105.1’s Angie Martinez has released a book that give the scoop on her career, her struggles and dishes on her interactions with some of Hip Hop’s brightest stars and largest legends. Here’s video of Angie talking about the book to Complex News. “My Voice: A Memoir” is available now.
CHANCE THE RAPPER SET TO HEADLINE POWER 106’S “POWERHO– USE” CONCERT
The year of Chance continues. Fresh from the success of his Coloring Book mix tape, Chance the Rapper was announced as the headliner for L.A. radio station Power 106’s annual “Powerhouse” Concert. It will be held June 3 in Anaheim, CA and will also feature Big Sean, Joey Bada$$, Yo Gotti, Fat Joe and Remy Ma. Chance’s train is becoming more an more unstoppable, it would seem.
RICK ROSS LAUNCHES A NEW SCHOLARSHIP WITH WINGSTOP
Though we haven’t heard much from Rozay on the music front lately, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been busy. A franchise owner of several Wingstop restaurants, Rick Ross is now partnering with the restaurant chain to award scholarships in higher education to people in urban areas and Wingstop employees through the Wingstop Foundation. Ross has had his issues in the past, but this is an act of philanthropy on his part that deserves some kudos.
NEW TRAVIS SCOTT ALBUM COMING SOON
While on tour with Rihanna, Travis Scott announced the title of his third album will be Astroworld. An ode to his hometown of Houston, Scott is yet to name a release date for the new album. He’s yet to even release his second album, which is called Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight and will follow up his 2015 debut. Guess no one can claim that Travis Scott is lacking in the ambition department.
DIDDY ANNOUNCES DATES FOR THE BAD BOY REUNION TOUR
Come on…you had to know that this wasn’t just going to be a one time thing. After announcing the initial May 21 concert, Diddy announced this week that a full-fledged Bad Boy reunion tour is hitting the road. He’ll be joined by Lil’ Kim, Mase, Faith Evans, Mario Winans, 112, Total, Carl Thomas, the Lox, and French Montana, as well as some special guests.
MACKLEMORE AND PRESIDENT OBAMA TALK ADDICTION
President Obama’s weekly address included a visit from Macklemore. The Grammy winner spoke candidly about the troubles of addiction, while the President touched on what his administration is doing to curb the increase in drug addiction throughout the country. Here is the conversation in full.
