We’ve come to the end of yet another week in the world of Hip Hop news. Sadly, we didn’t leave unscathed, as we lost yet another towering figure to the next world. But this week was not without both ups and downs. Here’s a look at some of the gi-normous stories people are talking about in Hip Hop.

AFENI SHAKUR, MOTHER OF TUPAC, PASSES AWAY AT 69

Much more than just the mother of the late, great Tupac, Afeni Shakur was an activist, philanthropist and much more. There have been touching tributes by everyone from The Game to Jada Pinkett Smith. But at the end of the day, she will be best known for birthing one of the most prominent voices the music world has ever known.

DRAKE LOOKS TO SET ONE-WEEK STREAMING RECORD WITH VIEWS

Looks as if Views is on pace to dethrone the Beyonce juggernaut. Drake’s latest album reportedly will break the record for most streams in one week with 250 million, seemingly outdoing Lemonade, which had 115 millions streams. So it would seem that the stunning year that Drake had in 2015 without even releasing an album is reaching a successful apex.

JAY Z RECORDING A LEMONADE RESPONSE ALBUM

Beyonce has set the music world on fire with her critically acclaimed visual album Lemonade, and the Formation World Tour. But her husband looks to be getting into the game now. With the revenge found throughout Lemonade, Jay Z now seems to be recording a response. Is this some real relationship discord, or just some Hov and Bey using made up drama to sell music? Either way, it seems many music fans will be buying in.

DEE-1, BIG K.R.I.T. AND LUPE FIASCO TEAM UP ON “AGAINST US” REMIX

Three of Hip Hop’s most potent voices teamed up for a new track that’s getting many people talking. New Orleans native Dee-1 brings the pain with Lupe and K.R.I.T. on the socially relevant track. And none of the emcees aim to lighten their message judging from the rhymes they spit. Here’s the video.

AFRIKA BAMBAATAA’S FORMER BODYGUARD LABELS HIM A ‘PEDOPHILE’

There’s nothing light or happy about the recent allegations of child sexual abuse against Afrika Bambaataa from three different men. And now, a reported former bodyguard is coming forward with some graphic allegations against the founder of the Universal Zulu Nation. Watch the full interview below.

T.I. TEAMS UP WITH TIDAL FOR AN EDUCATIONAL FUNDRAISER

Tidal X: Money Talk is the name of this new venture. T.I. and the streaming service have joined forces to create an educational platform that philanthropists can use to raise money for their communities.
