Winter is finally fading away and spring is right around the corner. And a new season brings a new reason to get all caught up on some of your favorite Hip Hop artists and all they have cooking as the weather warms up. But before we get too far off into the newness of spring, here’s a recap of some of the biggest Hip Hop-focused stories from this second week of March.
DR. DRE PRODUCING MUSIC FOR A GRAPHIC NOVEL LOADED
It looks like the Compton album will not be the last we hear of Dr. Dre musically. A report surfaced on HipHopDX that Dre is working with longtime collaborator Mark Baston on music that will accompany LOADED, a graphic novel described as an origin story that is a cross between James Bond, Jason Bourne and The Wire. A television series is also in the works, which may also feature a score by Dre. Stay tuned for more information on this one.
MAC MILLER CLOWNS DONALD TRUMP ON THE NIGHTLY SHOW
Mitt Romney isn’t the only one with a bone to pick with Trump. Pittsburgh emcee Mac Miller, who actually has a song named after the Republican presidential candidate, took to Larry Wilmore’s The Nightly Show and ripped into the Donald like a fat kid on his second helping of chocolate cake. Here’s the video of Mac owning Trump.
AZEALIA BANKS SHUTS DOWN TWITTER ACCOUNT
We’ve seen emcees quit Twitter before, only to come back and be involved in more ramblings and 140-character mini wars. Lupe Fiasco and Nicki Minaj come to mind. But even though people are rejoicing at Azealia Banks leaving Twitter, you gotta admit: as nuts as she was, she knew how to make news and get people to pay attention to her via the Twitter machine. Will this be the last we hear of Ms. Banks? Doubtful. An attention seeker can only go so long without their main trick of their trade.
50 CENT TO SETTLE HIS BANKRUPTCY CASE?
Looks that way. After appearing before a judge this week, 50 Cent is potentially close to making the deal on ending his bankruptcy where he would pay the creditors he owes a portion of $28 million over the course of five years. But there is the possibility of further investigations into all of his finances due to looming concerns that Fif’s postings on Instagram and other social media outlets make him out to not be taking the court proceedings seriously. So even though he might settle, Curtis could still be on pretty thin ice with the long arm of the law.
ILOVEMAKONNEN TALKS WITH MONTREALITY
He’s Drake’s biggest signee to the OVO Sound label. He’s famous off the “Tuesday” remix, with Drake on it. With all that under his belt, Atlanta rapper ILoveMakonnen sat down with Montreality. And he talked everything from a possible OVO Sound collabo album to his obsession with Pokemon.
