ANDRE 3000 TALKS NEW MUSIC, RECONNECTING WITH ERYKAH BADU
3000 is just one of those elusive characters that keeps us intrigued year after year. Not only is he starring in one of the most talked about TV shows in NBC’s American Crime, he also talked to Billboard about reconnecting with Erykah Badu on her cover of “Hello”, gave praise to Kid Cudi…and hinted at possibly releasing new music of his own! No, we won’t hold our breath. But we can dream, can’t we?
VH1’S THE BREAKS A RATINGS SUCCESS
Hip Hop nostalgia has officially hit the small screen. The Breaks, the much- anticipated original Hip Hop movie per VH1, garnered over 2 million viewers in its original airing this past Monday, according to The Wrap. And with The Breaks almost assuredly becoming a regular series on VH1 soon, can we expect there to be more cashing in on the Golden Era of Hip Hop? We damn sure hope so.
NEW BOOK OF A$AP YAMS TWEETS DUE ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH
A$AP Mob founder A$AP Yams, whose untimely death happened nearly one year ago, will have a book of his finest Tweets released this month to coincide with the “Yams Day” concert scheduled for January 18. Though it’s a sad occasion, proceeds will benefit Yams’ family. Fans can pre order copies of the book right here.
TRAILER FOR THE PRE-HIP HOP ERA NETFLIX SERIES THE GET DOWN
There’s more Hip Hop history-inspired TV on the way. Now Netflix is getting in the game with the Baz Luhrmann and Grandmaster Flash-produced series The Get Down. Inspired by late 1970s New York, the show focuses on the lives of a group of teenagers that will help to build early Hip Hop music and culture. The trailer says it all. The show is due to premiere later this year.
KILLER MIKE PENS INTRO TO MARVELS’ “THE HIP HOP COVERS”
The passion of Killer Mike is undeniable, from Hip Hop to social issues and community leadership. And now he has penned a stirring forward to Marvel Comics’ Variant Hip Hop covers, released earlier this week. A link to Killer Mike’s full intro to the Marvel covers can be found here.
AMBROSIA FOR HEADS NAMES KENDRICK LAMAR MAN OF THE YEAR IN 2015
As the article starts out, 2015 was undoubtedly a strange, crazy year to make any sense of. But one thing is clear. There are few Hip Hop artists that had a more impactful year than Kendrick Lamar.
