Here’s a rundown of some of the biggest hip hop news of the week, including Suge Knight’s Tupac theory and a new album coming soon from Wale.
SUGE KNIGHT GIVES TUPAC MURDER THEORY, TRIAL DATE SET
Earlier this week, Suge Knight game his outlandish theory on who he believes killed 2Pac. Needless to say, his ex-wife was none-too-happy with his explanation. To make matters worse for Knight, The Los Angeles Times reports that Knight’s murder trial will begin on January 8, 2018. Take a look at the video below for Knight’s theory confirmation.
WALE DROPPING NEW ALBUM SHINE ON MAY 5
The last time we heard from him was on 2015’s The Album About Nothing. But it’s high time for Wale to give us a new album. And that’s exactly what he will do on May 5 with Shine. Made up of 14 tracks and featuring G-Eazy, Travis Scott and Chris Brown, Shine is Wale’s fifth studio album and is due out May 5.
NEW TRAILER FOR ALL EYEZ ON ME FILM RELEASED
The latest trailer for All Eyez On Me is filled with black power imagery as it depicts Pac’s stepfather Mutulu Shakur and his mother Afeni as Black Panthers. The film, to be released on June 16, coincides with the iconic emcee being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Loaded with stars of all kinds, All Eyez On Me looks to be a real contender at the box office.
KANYE’S THE LIFE OF PABLO MAKES HISTORY
The announcement was made on Twitter by Def Jam. West’s The Life Of Pablo is officially certified as platinum by the RIAA, the first streaming-only album to gain that distinction. The album has been streamed 3 billion times across platforms. Kanye has had some milestones in his day, but this is truly a huge one for his seventh studio album.
CHICAGOANS WANT CHANCE THE RAPPER TO RUN FOR MAYOR
You read that right! An online campaign has started to persuade Chance The Rapper to run for Mayor of Chicago. The site was created by Bea Malsky, Kalil Smith-Nuevelle, Jean Cochrane and Alex Soble, all residents of Chicago. Chance has been in the news as of late for his huge philanthropic work on behalf of Chicago Public Schools.
ISAIAH RASHAD PREVIEWS NEW MUSIC
After finishing up the Lil Sunny Tour, Rashad Tweeted this week to his fans that they will not have to wait for new music from him much longer. Then, he proceeded to preview a new song on social media. Can we expect a follow up to last years’ The Sun’s Tirade sooner than later? We wouldn’t be mad at that.
