Forming up in Los Angeles in 2004, She Wants Revenge came to prominence during the post-punk revival of the 2000’s for their New Order-esque sound, and the ability to crank out the hits, with their self-titled debut album going into the top-10 for both dance and alternative rock charts, and the single, “Tear You Apart” hitting platinum. This song, and the music video shot for it especially, is a core memory for me, invoking many late nights at my favorite dance bar, and that song was one of my crew’s favorite songs to hit the dance floor for.

I’ve had the chance to see She Wants Revenge once before, about 6 years ago, and I had a fantastic time! The light show is perfect, really driving forward the beat and helping to keep the audience into it. I do remember that the group really played the “mysterious” card, mostly keeping to the shadows, faces lit up only in the brilliance of a strobe. The real show, though, is the slick bass lines and the muted yet cutting synths. The music is perfect for getting the crowd grooving, but more similar to Peanuts dancing than that of Soul Train.
