NEWS: Opening Band for The Rolling Stones in Orlando, FL Announced! [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

British blues band The Temperance Movement have just announced that they will be opening for The Rolling Stones when they come to the Citrus Bowl on June 12, 2015 (Exclusive SIGT Interview Below). The Temperance Movement are no strangers to opening for The Stones, they were hand picked by Mick Jagger to open all of their shows in Germany this past summer. The band is fresh off their tour with Blackberry Smoke where they have gained a strong buzz in U.S. They have been touring in support of their self-titled debut album The Temperance Movement. I was recently given the chance to interview The Temperance Movement before their show at House of Blues Orlando with Blackberry Smoke. Be sure to check out that interview below to hear more about the band’s origins and exactly how their connection with The Rolling Stones came about. 🙂

Every once in a while we stumble upon a band that grips us from the first note, for me The Temperance Movement is one of those bands. I was checking out the bands that would be playing with Blackberry Smoke when I came across a full concert by The Temperance Movement on YouTube. Not only is the music amazing but the straight-up showmanship of the band is top notch. Soon after listening to them, I found myself more excited to see The Temperance Movement than Blackberry Smoke. If you haven’t had the chance to check these guys out yet, I highly recommend doing so.

 

Trevor Bosmans, Shows I Go To (SIGT): Before forming The Temperance Movement, you were all session members for artists like Deep Purple, Jamiraquai, and Ray Davies, How did you all end up coming together to make music?

The Temperance Movement (TTM): Mutual musical interests. Mutual friends. And a mutual love for coffee and good food.

 

SIGT:  Your first show in the U.S. was at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, what was it like having your first show in such an iconic venue?

TTM: The Ryman is iconic but we were scuppered by the weather. The February ice storms in Nashville made it impossible for the show to go ahead. We were pretty disappointed since we were told The Black Crowes played some great shows there. So the next best thing happened. The day after we went and played on the Steve Gorman (drummer with The Black Crowes) radio show. So in the end it all kind of evened itself out. We’ve had shows in iconic venues before and since the Ryman and the reality is there’s a whole lot of factors that makes a special show. Mostly it’s the crowd but it’s also down to whole bunch of factors that are undeterminable. The weather. What you ate & drank that day. If you’re missing home. How you slept the night before. How clean your clothes are. All of those components conspire to produce the show. That the beauty and chaos of the whole thing!

 

SIGT: You were recently handpicked by Mick Jagger to open for The Rolling Stones for several shows in Germany, how did that come about?

TTM: The Rolling Stones were on the hunt for a new British blues band. We got lucky because a friend had just started interning with their management. She took a chance and spoke up. The word spread up The Stones’ ladder until it got to Mick. Luckily for us he has impeccable taste in music and he invited us to join them. It remains a huge huge honour for us!

 

SIGT:  For Record Store Day 2014, you released a 7-inch of covers by Blur and Oasis, what made you decide to pick those bands?

TTM: I think partly because it’s not what people would expect from us. We quite enjoy going against expectation. And partly because that was probably the most recent time when British bands were doing something significant. The Brit Pop scene was a movement and we like that.

 

SIGT: Are there any bands from the U.K. that we might not have heard of in the states that you think we should know about right now?

TTM: The Graveltones / Tom the Lion / Satellites.

 

SIGT: What are your plans for the future? Any plans to come back to the U.S. for a headlining tour?

TTM: Well the first plan is to finish this Blackberry Smoke tour in one piece. Then we’ll be making our way up the West Coast of the States from Tuscon on May 11 to Seattle May 19. Then in July we’ll return for some festivals [and this Rolling Stones show!] and then there’s talk of a tour in the fall. And then there’s 2016 when we plan to spend even more time over here. Oh you lucky lucky people of North America!
