Raspberry Pie Orlando 2018

NEW MUSIC MONDAY: Raspberry Pie “Nerdy Talk” Single (STREAM) | EP Release Show at Blackstar, Orlando, FL on Saturday, June 23, 2018! (TIX ON SALE NOW)

by • June 4, 2018

I think I was wearing a scarf. Well, twirling it. Maneuvering between the saxophonist who ran the room (garage turned Skatetown U.S.A. remake,) and the other movers on the carpet, I tilted my head and gave in.

Gave in to the MF-in funk.

Raspberry Pie is Orlando’s #1 dance band.

Who’s no. 2??

It doesn’t funkin’ matter!!”

But, do they do a better cover of “September” than Taylor Swift???

OF COURSE THEY DO.

When we started playing “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire, people got up and started dancing…..As long as we kept playing, they kept dancing, with no signs of stopping. Finally, after nearly 15 minutes of solos, choruses, break downs, build ups, and the removal of shirts from fear of sweating to death, we brought the song to a blistering close, and swore to bring that experience to as many people as possible. Raspberry Pie shows are at their best when everyone in the crowd loses their inhibitions, and goes nuts. And we like to go nuts with them.”

Doug Horne (Vocals/guitar,) Ryan Goodwin (piano/vocals,) Nick L’Heureux – (Alto Saxophone,) Zac Howard – (Bass guitar,) and Clyde (robot drummer) began dosing the Orlando scene with funk in 2015, and have created some tasty, tasty licks along the way.

Their 2016 album People, Places, and Things spurred on the dance vibes.

Is this THE workout jam of 2018?

The boys are back and nerdier than ever with their latest single, “Nerdy Talk.”

“‘People, Places, and Things’ was a fun record to make, but in a lot of ways, it was really a transitional album. The majority of the songs were recorded solely by me, as I hadn’t met any of the other guys yet. It was only toward the end of the recording process that Ryan and I got together, and he tracked for “Space Cowboy” and “Loveseat,” which, incidentally, are probably the two strongest tracks on the album.

Doug Horne helms the group with his patented moves on the stage and gives thoughtful insight into the groups creative process.

Hype As Funk is definitely more of a group effort, and an album with a bit more direction to it. “Nerdy Talk” is probably the best example of that group mentality, as I wrote it specifically with each band members’ best abilities in mind. From Zac’s slapping, to Ryan’s rhythmic ideas on the keys, to Nick’s ability to lay down a big sexy hook on saxophone, everyone shines their brightest, especially when we play it live. It’s sort of the musical equivalent of all the Zords coming together to make a giant megazord.”

If you don’t think nerds are sexy or funky, Raspberry Pie is here to change your mind.

Raspberry Pie PREMIERE – “Nerdy Talk”

Not picky, no it doesn’t matter
Just who you are
As long as you like Captain Kirk not
Jean Luc Picard
We’ll go to Barnes and Noble and we’ll
Sit on the floor
And flip through all the manga
Until they close the store.

Sax weaves throughout the song and pulls your hips upward, as you gravitate toward the groove

I need a cute companion just like every Doctor Who
To chat with ’bout my comics, Star Wars, anime, and soon
I’ll find that special someone that can whisper in my ear
Those geeky little nothings that I always wanna hear
I want some.

We make it millenial. All the songs on the EP, in one way or another, hit on touchstones of a culture that would largely be perceived as being “millenial.” Everything from nerdy fandoms, to #gymsongs, to the true implications of the phrase “LOL,” are presented through funky dance grooves, and a humorous attitude. And, of course, nothing could be more millenial than titling the album in a variation on “Hype AF.

Are we glorifying millenials culture, or are we mocking it? …….Yes.”

Orlando’s newest premier space Blackstar will play host to the EP Release show on Saturday, June 23. The aptly titled Hype As Funk, will get birthed right on that dancefloor. With Blackstar’s supreme light show on the walls, it’s the ideal space to disco all night.

Accompanying the boys is Marc with a C and EyeQ

I caught Marc with a C at The Geek Easy back in 2016 and he was both raw and coy. A modern memory.

EyeQ boasts a knowledge of animation and video games, and his music would agree, he sound cannot be pinned down to one genre. The artist bridges nerdcore, hip hop, and a love of jazz together in an amalgamation of wildly different worlds colliding.

EyeQ – Sweet love at Pax South

Happy Belated Birthday to the one and only Anita Baker <3 I had some much fun doing this rendition of Sweet love with the Super Soul Bros. Robbie Benson and ChocoBros Emmanuel Kwame Aouad and Leron Gray The NPC Collective

This bill is as enticing as it is eclectic

I’d like to go on record as stating that I’m more of a Picard guy than a Kirk guy.”

You heard it from Doug himself, all nerds and swell humans are welcome to come groove June 23rd!!!
