WOW! 64 years…phew! You’re about ready to slide into retirement WPRK! (Except, we will not accept a resignation so, don’t try it.) You’ve laid the groundwork, reaped the rewards, and still have the best years ahead of you. WPRK has long been an audio institution in the Orlando community for well, a little over six decades  now. They’ve had incredible guests in the form of music legends, revered poets, and of course, the students of Rollins College themselves.

WPRK has made possible an endless well of resources to news, music, and life as we’re living it! The students on campus have had to fight to gain more control over their broadcast throughout the years and have some pretty amazing notches on their bedpost to show for it. “Family Values” was the first broadcast of its kind in Central Florida with a segment geared towards gay and lesbians in 1995. Only a little over ten years ago doesn’t seem so long for such a topic to be revolutionary but, as we all are well too aware, we are still wrestling with issues concerning sexuality today. Given its time, this was revolutionary and is among one of the many reasons why the small, but mighty radio station is cemented in Orlando history forever.

Now, let’s slap some rouge on the old gal, roll up those pantyhose, tighten her girdle and take the ol’ broad for out for a night on the town, shall we? 😉

Where else but the imitable Will’s Pub for the backdrop of this spectacular birthday bash? Nowhere. Nowhere else, is the answer. They’ll have entertainment late into the evening with bands starting at 9pm. The Dealers, BLONK, Uke-A-Ladies and Bubble Boys take over the Will’s stage while WPRK DJ’s will be hosting the event with live mixing from Lil Indies, PLUS Ms. Kaleigh Baker on the craft cocktail side as well. Admission is a $5 suggested donation, which earns a raffle ticket for the chance to win prizes from Foxtail Coffee, Wonderworks, Whirly Dome, Pita Pit, MindQuest, America’s Escape Game, Winter Park Seltzer Company, and JuiceBike.

Wear your favorite WPRK vintage tee and wish this Rollins monolith another great year around the sun with good music and chances to win sick prizes from some of Orlando’s greastest community treasures!
