Polyenso Live Preview

Polyenso w/ Redfeather | Coming to State Theatre, St. Petersburg, Fl | Friday, October 16, 2015

by • October 15, 2015

Polyenso is a St. Pete-based experimental pop band whose music takes inspiration from a variety of different genres including: indie rock, electronic, folk, jazz, and hip-hop. It’s all of these elements that make the band’s brand of pop music more interesting than what you get from more mainstream acts like Walk the Moon. I’ve yet to experience their tasty grooves live, but you my friends have the chance to — along with fellow hometown hereos, Redfeather — this Friday, October 16, at the State Theatre. I imagine the band’s ethereal sound will sound monumental in a live setting, spiritual perhaps.

It’s always exciting when a band plays their hometown. And what’s even more exciting about Polyenso playing in St. Pete is that the show serves as a release party for their newest release, simply titled, EP1. On this new project, the band fires more towards a pop sound, but make mistake, they’re not shooting for Top 40. Instead, what you get is more singable hooks over interesting instrumentals.

This Friday, not only do you get the experimental pop of Polyenso, fellow St. Pete warriors, Redfeather, will also be on hand for your listening pleasure. Of the group’s two songs on Bandcamp, both are seven-minute journeys through a forest of folk sounds. Acoustic guitars serve as the backdrop for colorful instrumentations to play on; groovy guitars jump in and out of frame, whilst singer Mark Etherington tells a the story like a modern day J.R.R. Tolkien.
